Had a great weekend in Yosemite. Checked in to Hodgdon a little after noon; the camp host informed us they were allowing campfires at the time in our fire rings as long as we kept the fires small (at a reasonable amount, nothing crazy) and the wood had to fit inside the pit (nothing hanging out over the side of the ring). Visited Tuolumne, beautiful weather about 75 degrees, clear blue skies andby marmot - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Camping in hodgdon this weekend and wanting to visit soda springs and lembert dome in Tuolumne. It's been a while since I've been in Tuolumne. Is soda springs within reasonable walking distance of lembert dome or a different area nearby that allows parking?by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Glad that nonsense is over with. I never even bothered using the temporary names they put in place, I just kept on calling it curry village etc.by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The Mariposa Grove reopened 6-15-18 to the public again. Has anyone been up to the grove since the reopening? Just wondering what your thoughts are on how it turned out. I'll be heading there to check it out. They have a new parking lot by the south entrance, then in the grove a small parking lot and in the upper grove a small parking lot near the grizzly giant by where the vault restroom was resby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hello all, its been a while since I've posted. Wanting to do an overnight backpacking trip up chilnualna fall trail to grouse lake. I know the lake (more like a seasonal miniature pond) is off to the side of the trail and can take a bit of scouting to find it. I just wanted to ask if anyone has any advice on how I can locate it and successfully navigate off the trail to find it. Thanks everyone!by marmot - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I worked for the NPS in both parks - spent over 5 years in yosemite and for a while spent some time working in sequoia national park. I loved them both. Each park is unique and has many wonderful things to explore. Sequoia national park does have less visitors than yosemite does but I think it is still an amazing placeby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
every morning i leave wawona around 5am and drive to the valley to go to work, (except my days off, i sleep in!!! ). Somewhere roughly around 5:25 am give or take a few, i'm near avalanche creek on highway 41. I notice that when i'm near avalanche creek on highway 41 and also a little bit north of it, you can see city lights out in the distance if you look to the south west. my camera isn't verby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. true, all we have now is just smoke drifting around from the aspen fire. on my way to work the other day you couldn't even see half dome from the tunnel view (was about 5:30am)by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
There's tons of great places in wawona to swim at. I know of one spot that has a large bolder that lots of people jump off of into the river but you have to go during the right time of year. The water this time of year is way to shallow for jumping.by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I was working in sequoia park down there at Ash Mountain on the day of when they were conducting the checkpoint (though I'm normally stationed here in Yosemite). Somebody asked me if they ever do checkpoints in yosemite and come to think of it, I really can't think of any. Closest thing I can think of is the one they do where they randomly check the buses that come into the park to see if they arby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I would guess that it is because of more enforcement. i remember fresno making the news a while back for having the most DUI's in the US - but that was because of the fresno police force making it a big goal to target it.by marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

that old fence there at Glacier Point looks new but that thing has been falling apart for quite some time now. seems like just about every time i went to work up there I had to make minor adjustments on it where it was breaking and falling apart. it would be a good idea to install a whole new oneby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. here's a few of the covered bridge in wawona, at the pioneer village history center that I wanted to share - thought some of you might like this. I'll keep an eye out for this room the next time i'm in there. come to think of it, I haven't been inside the ahwahnee in about a year. but I guess it's cuz I usually get dinner at the curry pizza deck and avoid the parking and walking over to the ahwahnee =pby marmot - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
