here are a few photos i took yesterday while in the valley... http://geocities.com/carpetstuff/yosemiteapril2007 Glacier Road is still closed by the way.. don't let the nice weather fool you, you won 't be able to go up this road yet.. i talked to a Park Ranger and he said he wasn't sure when it would be open. i had my telescope and watched two different rock climbing teams finish El Capby forrestranger - General Discussion
Mike; i have a large spotting scope that is the size of a decent size telescope.. would i be able to drive and then walk to this area without it being a pain in the butt carrying the spotting scope? btw, what is BM693?by forrestranger - General Discussion
can anyone suggest a website where it shows a photo of climbing routes on El Capitan?by forrestranger - General Discussion
anyone know when they plan on finishing up the construction? some of the areas i like to go to (day area picnics) were closed last time i was there (back in Feb). all kinds of detours, not only detours, but they simply blocked off access to some roads completely.by forrestranger - General Discussion
can anyone tell me where in Yosemite this is? i have a hobby of watching rock climbers through a powerful spotting scope and would love to check this place out. oh yeah, also Lost-Arrow-Spire. i'm used to being in the valley itself (El Capitan) and don't know where these two other places are... i'm coming in from hwy 120 if anyone can give me directions. thanks a tonby forrestranger - General Discussion
here are two more photos from that weekend of El Capitan (the first one was from years ago)... http://geocities.com/carpetstuff/elcap.html Post Edited (03-11-07 13:44)by forrestranger - General Discussion
looks very interesting... i'll probably end up buying it. it has nothing to do with Yosemite, but my wife bought a book called Final Exists that is pretty intersesting... it's all about strange ways people have died. good bathroom reading. lolby forrestranger - General Discussion
very nice photos! i don't recognize the Happy Burger Diner. where is that exactly? off hwy 140?by forrestranger - General Discussion

Vince; did you end up going over the weekend? i was there on Saturday... went to take photos of Horsetail Falls, but not much luck.. people said the night before was good, but not saturday night. met a number of people (which was fun), but was disappointed in the sunset. still had a great time, always do in Yosemite, how can you not? lolby forrestranger - General Discussion
i was in Yosemite yesterday (2/17/07) and noticed that their entrance fee's went from $50.00 for a yearly card for all national parks, to $80.00 (they even call it something different, but i forget what). the yearly $40.00 for Yosemite itself has so far stayed the same.by forrestranger - General Discussion
here is a site that shows the campsites for that area. http://yosemitecampsites.com/by forrestranger - General Discussion
what ph# would you suggest we call? thank youby forrestranger - General Discussion
here's a photo i took of it a few years ago with a cheap 1.2 pixel digital camera. http://geocities.com/carpetstuff/elcap.htmlby forrestranger - General Discussion
well, that answers my question of my post called "Horsetail Falls". thanks for the heads up :-)by forrestranger - General Discussion
the 2nd & 3rd weeks of February is the time to take photos of Horsetail Falls. once a year the waterfall appears to look like lava during sunset (Horsetail Falls is on El Capitan to the far upper right). i haven't been up there for a few weeks, are the falls still flowing? you can't tell unless you have a pair of binoculars, but it's there usually. just wondering of anyone has been up therby forrestranger - General Discussion
one weird thing i noticed about this article.... she is 65 yrs old? and are going to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary next month????? good gravy man! he was 15 yrs old when he got married??? yeow!by forrestranger - General Discussion
i was up there on 1/21/07 and checked out Upper Pines Campground while i was there.... they did reaffirm that they are open year round... $20.00 a night for a normal campsite. they said you have to still go to the office and pick up an envelope to fill out (you know, the honor system)... the Rangers will check up on you too, so don't think you can sneak in for free during the winter. lolby forrestranger - General Discussion
thanks again Bruce... i ended up buying the scope.... i went up to Yosemite this last weekend to try it out... i love the scope, it will work out just fine... like you said, i can't view their faces, but at any point on the mountain, i can get what looks like seeing someone from about 40 feet away (good enough for me)... i did however not like the tripod the salesman sold me, it was way too flimsby forrestranger - General Discussion
thanks a ton Bruce! i called Orion and they told me that if for any reason i don't like the product, i could send it back for a full refund within 30 days. can't go wrong with that i guess. btw... i was wondering.... i plan on attaching a camera to the scope and taking photos of the climbers... i was thinking that if i could get up close enough with a photo shot, they might want photos of thby forrestranger - General Discussion
sorry.... i should have made myself more clear... i'm sleeping in my Element in a paid campsite. nuttin' illegal about dat. lolby forrestranger - General Discussion
i mean sleep in your car? i have a 2004 Honda Element and slept in it one time in Yosemite this last year... it's barely enough room, but workable... i can take the back two seats out and sleep there... i was quite warm, but need to come up with something for padding underneath me. any suggestions? (i don't think an air mattress will fit).by forrestranger - General Discussion
depends on what you want to do... if you want to camp inside the Valley floor, then you better get reservations way ahead of time, or forget it. June is a real good month to visit as all the waterfalls will be going full bore (generally that time of year). it can be crowded that time of year, but you shouldn't let that stop you. be sure to come with a camera! are you a hiker at all? there arby forrestranger - General Discussion
besides El Captian, what other mountains are popular for climbers to be seen?by forrestranger - General Discussion
even the campgrounds called Upper and Lower Pine? they're open too?by forrestranger - General Discussion
well, the thing is, is i was hopeful that i could find something strong enough to zoom in on their faces (yes, that close).by forrestranger - General Discussion
Bruce; could you recommend something that is more powerful that would work better? i originally wanted something strong enough to zoom in on their faces, but a couple of people on a telescope forum told me that it probably wouldn't work because of the heat waves etc. Post Edited (01-12-07 13:08)by forrestranger - General Discussion
thanks a ton Bruce! i appreciate your input. yeah, i was told not to go cheap on a tripod.. i'll be buying a heavy duty one for sure.by forrestranger - General Discussion
hi everyone... i know this isn't a telescope forum, but i was hoping maybe someone here might be able to help me anyway. what i want to be able to do, is to look at the rock climbers that are on El Capitan from the valley meadow down below where the road is. is that possible? for those who "might" be visiting this forum, and knows a thing or two about spotting scopes / telescopes,by forrestranger - General Discussion
are you allowed to camp in Yosemite Valley all year long? or do they close them if there is too much snow?by forrestranger - General Discussion
