I appreciate the heads-up. I always try to let the campground office know as far in advance when I know I won't be using nights I've reserved. I have sometimes found a spot for myself at the last minute, but that's always been mid-week during the off-season.by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. These passes cover the park entrance fee. A $2 non-refundable reservation fee still applies to peak-hours reservations."by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. They run concessions at sports arenas. I didn't understand why (a) the contract at YNP with Delaware North was not renewed, and (b) why it was given to Aramark, of all companies. Aramark has shown repeatedly that it doesn't give a crap about people visiting Yosemite, doing anything it can to cut costs (and thus services). TM-area free shuttle? Nope, not even for a fee. Skiing at BP? Cancelled twoby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

You're wrong there with respect to "tuolumne lodge". I have not investigated the history, but once upon a time it was a high sierra camp - as evidenced by trail signs that are still out there that give the distance to "tuolumne hsc".by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Concern about environmental impacts my a--. That's just a cover for them to be cheap. Do we know the name of the idiot who decided to give this contract to Aramark? And what was so bad about how DNC was running things that they wanted to cut the contract with them? Reminds of the joke that an astronaut made: "Remember, every part on this ship was built by the lowest bidder."by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. 1. And what of people who have held reservations for the last several years whose reservations got cancelled? 2. I wish they wouldn't be opaque about why they're not opening Vogelsang and Merced Lake, and explain how opening the other camps is different. 3. Are they going to revert to "Tuolumne Meadows High Sierra Camp"?by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Agree with you re loss of institutional knowledge, and I suspect it's not just with the HSCs where this has occurred. In Europe they have things like HSCs all over, but in the US I think the YNP HSCs are unique.by Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The first time our family went to Yosemite was eleven months before our now-youngest was born. In the intervening years, we have been back in various constellations of family members, I’ve gone alone a few times, and I have also managed to do something with each of the kids individually. This week was it was the whippersnapper’s turn (and my first trip since pre-Wuhan virus). He indicated heby Not quite The Geezer, but getting there - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
