I was there over Fourth of July weekend in 2014 and still managed to get two tickets for the 8:00 am bus to Glacier Point with no issues.by drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Super jealous of your agenda for seeing U.S. National Parks! Nice job getting permits. Your last agenda seems pretty good. You might also think about trekking up to Clouds Rest after your night in Little Yosemite Valley. There will probably be some snow on the trail so microspikes might be helpful.by drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Best of luck. Oh My Gosh Point would be a decent back-up if you think the snow is undoable.by drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I might be in the same boat. I'm shopping for a place for the big ask in mid-June. I would suggest Panorama Point. Take the one-way bus up to Glacier Point (or you can drive up there and make the trail round trip instead of walking one-way to the valley - assuming you are staying there) and take the Panorama trail. After you pass Illilouette Falls the crowds will thin out significantly. Paby drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Wow! I love the Yosemite Falls one especially. Where was that taken from and how do I get there?by drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
This seems like a very wet year so far. Any predictions if this trip will even be viable without making everyone in my group buy snow shoes? Think Tioga Road will even be open on June 17th? If not, I've got some reservations at Curry Village. Any good ideas for day hikes from here? I'm thinking Panorama Trail (from Glacier Point) and Yosemite Falls to Yosemite Point (round trip).by drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks markskor and basilbop! Sierra! Not Sierras! My ignorance shows again... I've done some altitude hiking - recently did the Inca Trail in the Andes in November (8,000 - 13,800 ft range) but that was after acclimating at 11,500 ft for two days in Cusco... We won't have any time at all to acclimate really - we're coming straight from sea level, spending the first night in Yosemite Valleyby drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi everybody, I saw some stupid cheap flights to SFO and jumped on the opportunity as a chance to get back to Yosemite. I'm planning a three day, two night backpacking trip for a group of 8. We're in our late 20s, in great shape, and have done some backpacking trips, but we don't have much experience in the Sierra. I would call us intermediate hikers at best because of our lack of experience.by drh177 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
