I'm on Clouds Rest as I type this, we went through Cathedral Lake area with just a few patches of snow and no downed trees, all clear already. We then hiked to Sunrise HSC with only a few more patches of snow and only a couple of trees. Mosquitos we horrible at Sunrise HSC, as bad as I've ever seen mosquitos, we mostly stayed in our tent. From Sunrise HSC we hiked by the Sunrise lakes on our wby jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Thanks for the update, I'm not able to see the photos, they are not showing up. I would love to see them.by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for the update, sounds pretty doable if you ask me. My wife is going with me this trip and really dislikes hiking on any snow. Hopefully she won't kill me while we up there for taking her through a small amount of snow. I think 2-4 miles of snow over a 35 mile or so trip is not bad, we will have trekking poles.by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Got my permit for this Friday for Cathedral Lakes, ranger told me there were 11 openings this morning, must be a lot of cancellations. Any more updates for this trail?by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I will be out in the same area in just over a week, an update after the trip would be appreciated and be a big help.by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Alternative is to park your car at the trailhead then do your hike and end in the valley. Then catch the bus back to your car after the hike. I have done this several times and will probably do it again this year.by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
What are the chances they open TM Campground prior to August 1? Has anybody heard anything recently?by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Where is this webcam? I saw one on the Yosemite NP website, it that the one?by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I'm planning on showing up around 3-4am, then waiting to get a walkup permit. So it sounds like you think the trail won't be too bad at that time. I'm hoping TM wilderness permit center is open then, better than having to wait in the valley.by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
With 4 nights you can easily stop at Cathedral Lakes the first night and still have plenty of time to finish. I have done this hike, we stayed at Cathedral Lake, Sunrise HSC and then near the junction of the JMT / Clouds Rest. We hiked to the top of Half dome the night we stayed at the Junctions then hiked out the next morning. You would still have an extra night to stay somewhere else.by jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Will I be able to hike over Clouds Rest the end of July with minimal to no snow cover? I'm thinking of starting at Sunrise Lakes TH and doing a 3-5 night backpacking trip. I have been over Clouds Rest once, its been 6 years and I really want to do it again. Any insight would be appreciated, thanksby jkokbaker - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
