Shaunsmomo is a trusted member and I have no problem believing his statements. It is correct that the way shaunsmomo is handling this is on the up and up and I appreciate his offer. We just have to be careful whom we give the cancellation date and time too. I highly doubt lizzy 79's claim.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotehikerchick395 mtn man guessed May 10 and that was in the ballpark of my prognostication, so I'll pick May 11 (all criterion and statistics studied and disregarded...using my usual predicting method instead) Looks like Hikerchick395 is the winner!! I was walking up the shuttle bus road from Curry to Happy Isles when a motorhome heading in the direction of Happy Isles stopped and asked me: "How much further is Tuolumne Meadows?" They had been on 120 from the San Francisco area and missed the 120 turn off at Crane Flat. QuoteDave Quotemtn manIs this a "for sure" statement based on positive official statements? I'm trying to figure out if there's a chance I can get over the pass on the 10th of May. Inform me...Yes, it is a "for sure" statement. They will start plowing, if needed, on May 15, five days after the day you plan on going. The snow might have melted by then. QuoteDave They are going to plow starting May 15 instead of April 15. Since the snow pack is half of what it usually is, that delay might not affect anything. If there is any snow left on May 15 it should be enough for one truck to clear in one pass. I'm sure they'll open it sooner if the snow is off the road. I heard they have to keep people off Half Dome now because they are going to bring back the Fire Falls, but off of Half Dome this time instead of Glacier Point... But volunteers who want to carry wood for the Fire Falls up to the top of Half Dome in the morning will be allowed to make the ascent, on a lottery basis of course.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuoteKatyAnderson Just for fun a little guessing game. The park service says that plowing starts around April 15 and provides background info including past years opening dates here. Right now it looks like it will be even earlier than last year, my guess is Friday May 3rd. I hope I am wrong though and that we get another couple of wet storms coming through. May 10. Quote2LegalAliens Another question I just read that campfires in the valley are only allowed from 01 May through 15 Oct. Are they allowed at Wawona? The campfires while star gazing are one of the things we enjoyed most on our previous trip and are pretty much a must. Actually during those dates campfires are only permitted from 5pm to 10 pm. The rest of the year they are permitted at any time.by mtn man - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

They have a radio and can call for you. Also, you can contact the camp host the next morning or stop by the campground office or kiosk. QuoteDave Which brings up the best way to handle these problems. Get the number of dispatch from the campground kiosk when you check in. Call when someone is being rude. They'll usually come. In Lower Pines years ago we had a couple of guys next to us who were loud and profane in the middle of the night. I've for the last 20 yrs. been trying to point out to the NPS in Yosemite that the problem with the afternoon backup of traffic to the Curry 4 way is due to the pedestrian problem at the Yosemite Lodge/Yosemite Falls crossing.
