OK, let's hope the same holds true this year. I'll be sure to stop in the store to say hi! What a great job you have!by waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks! Yes, we are driving, but had hoped to leave the car in the Valley and take the bus or yarts to Tuolumne Meadows. I wonder if either of those would drop us off at Yosemite Creek? How far is that from the Cathedral Lakes TH? I'm not too worried about the snow as it would be a welcome change for me coming from the heat of PHX. I do wonder about shoes though. My current hikers are not waby waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks, I will check that out. This is all going to make car logistics interesting, especially if the shuttle isn't running...by waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
That's good news, or at least hopeful news! I do plan to bring the correct gear (bear can) and a great attitude, so I should be set, right? I'm just crossing my fingers that the road is open. I also made backup plans for a trip around Thousand Island Lakes, but again, roads may be an issue...? I do wonder if the shuttle and/or Yarts will be operating if the campground is closed. Thank you. That is helpful. Looks like there are many established campsites along Tioga Road, but I suspect they will fill up quickly, especially with Tuolumne Meadows camp being closed. I see that dispersed camping is allowed in Inyo in some areas, so I will research that to see if anything is close enough to the trailhead if we can't get a campground site. So I saw an update on the Yosemite facebook page tonight that they are changing the projected opening date for the Tuolumne Meadows campground from July 15 to August 1st. I have a wilderness permit for July 20 starting from the Cathedral Lakes TH. The update says they aren't accepting reservations until Aug 1st, but I don't need a res with my permit and it's most likely too late to get a new pby waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Wow, those pictures sure are beautiful, but looks like I would need a kayak and a snowmobile to make it through! Good, so I am relieved I was able to get those July permits. I'm guessing it's still going to be pretty wet and sloshy even then, but a little moisture will be good for our desert skin! Obviously, no one knows how the spring weather will play out, but considering the current snow-pack I'm thinking my June 20th permit from Tuolumne Meadows may come with complications. I went ahead and secured permits for mid-July as well just in case. I'm seeing a few benefits to waiting until July such as the availability of Yarts during the weekdays (we start out on a Tuesday) and the probabiby waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks all for the info and advice. Yes, I am a bit worried about the snow given the winter we are having. The other concern I have is that since we would be leaving our car in Yosemite Valley, I'm not sure how we are going to get to Tuolumne Meadows. Yarts only runs on the weekends in June (our hike begins on a Tuesday) and the backpackers shuttle leaves at 9am meaning we would have to stay iby waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks Markskor! That's great to know about the flexibility. I like your suggestion because despite my acrophobia, I really did have my heart set on Cloud's Rest. I didn't apply for a HD permit because frankly, trekking up there on cables with a line of other people freaks me out. Cloud's Rest looks scary enough, and it's going to take all my wits and very small steps for me to walk up the &quby waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hi, I have always been an avid day-hiker but have recently discovered how much I love backpacking. I've done a few trips here in AZ on the Mogollon Rim and 3 Grand Canyon trips down to the River using various trails. I applied for Yosemite wilderness permits for June 20th and they were accepted! I am super exited as I've never spent any real time there besides a quick touristy visit as a child.by waninggibbous - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
