I was at TM CG from Sunday to Wednesday. Mosquitoes not bad in camp. I found them mostly when walking through trees and near creeks. The little flies were kind of bothersome in camp at times. I did ask the host at CG when I got there about mosquitoes and he said "next week." I thought maybe I had, hopefully, missed them! The river was awesome and more water than I expected, but sby YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So, I guess the answer to my question is that there will be mosquitoes, so be prepared! Thanks all!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Any thoughts about the mosquito situation at Tuolumne Meadows area? Looking to go towards end of June for some backpacking. Went last year in July assuming since it was such a dry winter mosquitos would be gone by then - wrong!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I stopped using the Mist Trail about 5 years ago after going up at 6:00 AM (pretty dark) to get to Half Dome in May. I'd been up and down many times and one time coming down when it was hot and dry and I was very tired and dehydrated and almost fainted. That was the last time I went DOWN it. That was before I learned how to hike wisely with plenty of water and food, etc (trekking poles). Oneby YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So many memories! I'll never forget the first time to the Valley. Newlyweds, my husband and I had just moved to California in 1971 and decided at 2:00 AM on a Friday to go to Yosemite (from Napa). We arrived around 7:00 AM and El Cap looked like a HUGE wall of ice to me - it was sooo awesome! Being from Ohio, it was shocking! 40 years later, I'm still in awe every time I arrive at the park.by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I get what you're saying, eeek! Thanks everybody. We'll just go more prepared than usual for the pests! Still a great place to be!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yes, we've experienced them in July a couple of times, but August is usually better. Thanksby YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Can anyone tell me about the mosquito situation at the campground. Will be arriving there this Wed. I'm thinking the skeeter season may be later this year - hoping not so! Thanksby YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
HA HA! GOOD ONE, CHICK-ON!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
THANKS SO MUCH, CHICK-ON! LOVE ALL YOUR PIX! GOING CRAZY TO GET THERE THIS YEAR - SUCH A LOOONG WINTER! SO NICE TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NOW IN THE HIGH COUNTRY - HELPS TO UNDERSTAND WHY IT TAKES SO LONG TO OPEN UP!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Yeh, that's why I was asking - I didn't see anything saying store AND grill. Getting there just a little too early. THANKS ANYWAY!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Since the Tuolumne store was to open 6/25, would the Grill be opening then too?by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yes, Thanks, Thanks, Thanks! I check in everyday to see what's happening. I'm amazed at some of the pix and so glad you all post the current pictures since I can't get there as often as I'd like (which would be every week/month if I could). I really appreciate all of the updates! Will be in TM in July, August and September - can't wait!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
How does it look for Glacier Point Road opening? Please soon!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Any guesses as to when 4-mile trail will be open? Hoping to do it and panorama back to valley on May 2. Went last year in early June and they were still clearing some debris from trail- so it will probably be even later this year.by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
WOW! Thanks so much - I especially love the one from the bridge. Fabulous pictures! You made my day!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Would love to see it up top with all the snow, but don't think so now! I consider that one of the toughest hikes now. Would rather do HD again rather than that one. Well, maybe once is enough for HD, but it was a whole lot easier coming down!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Exactly! Great description (sands and sandals movies). I guess I was a lot younger when it seemed so easy a few years ago.by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I won't be doing the Yosemite Falls trail again. Been there a few times and love it up there, but time before last it was 90 degrees through the switchbacks near the top (nearly crawled up). Did it last April and coming down was just AWFUL - too slippery and just miserable. Seems the trail needs a lot of work (sandy and slippery). Next time to top of the falls for me will be via Yosemite Creeby YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks so much for posting all of the BEAUTIFUL pictures. I've been going crazy with the web cams down - so that helped a lot! Can't imagine what it's like there right now!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just wondering if anyone knows about these two webcams. I'm sure they won't be up now this winter, but I miss watching the snow level at both sites. I'm just hoping they'll be up and running by next winter!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
What a gorgeous picture - where is it taken from - what lake? I want to go there!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I never paid much attention to Mt. Conness until couple of years ago hiking from May Lake to Glen Aulin and the sun was just right on it and it was so white - fantastic picture!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I have a picture from June that looks almost exactly like that. 4-mile just after it opened and on across Glacier Point, Panorama Trail and down JMT to valley - one of the best hikes I've taken lately. I put off doing 4-mile for years thinking it would be boring, but was totally surprised by beauty. Illouette Fall is really beautiful, just hidden away so doesn't get much attention.by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Looking down at Ilouette Falls from Panorama trail near Washburn Point. I was there last June - beautiful!by YAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks - that helps a lot. I want to get to WW as fast as possible to spend some time there (only a day hiker). If you were there in 2005, probably lots more water than will be this July. That was a wet winter if I remember right - took forever for Tioga Road to open!by YAY - General Discussion
