Thanks for the advice! I did see some of your info on the area. Your pictures are spectacular. I've got to go back on a nicer day. It'd be nice to do a traverse, whether the entire ridge or just a part of it. Seems like it gets dicey in places.by tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I only saw a few topics on Falls Ridge, so I figured I should post up some pictures and a trip report for the area. It's a place with a great, unique view of some of Yosemite's major peaks. It's also almost untouched by bootprints (and I hope this post doesn't totally change that). We walked the trail out to McGee Lake after spending a night at Glen Aulin. From there, we walked off the trail oby tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The tent cabins were still down. There was patchy snow across the whole area, including big snow mounds in all of the shower stalls. I wish I had taken a picture...by tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I use a bivy sack, and I think it can be a great option for summer backpacking in the Sierra. For one, they're lighter than most tents, and they're usually much more durable than those ultralight solo tents like the Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1. They take up much less room in your pack, and they don't rely on poles which can break or bend. From an aesthetic point of view, they give you that "sleeby tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I just processed some more of the pictures. The second day, I climbed up the Upper Yosemite Falls trail. It was really dry up there compared to this time in years past. This is the slope right past the bridge over Yosemite Creek. Since I've been coming up, there's usually snow over the rocks here through April, but not so this year. This was probably the most snow I saw on the entire trip:by tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hey all, I've been lurking this site for a while, now, and figured I should contribute. I and some friends just got back from Yosemite Valley this week, and we did some pretty unique hikes, so I figured I'd share some pictures. The first day, we hiked to the base of Ribbon Falls, which I only knew one could do because of this forum. Here are some pictures: I wrote up a longer tripby tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Well, not everyone visits Yosemite National Park to see a bear walking along the side of the road. Some people visit the park in order to camp or backpack or hike. Sometimes people want to do those things, but have limited time to do them. I don't think it's fair for a driver to take it on himself to decide how others should enjoy the park, but that's what people effectively do when they slow dowby tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Signs on Half Dome about lightning are different, I think, than signs at Wapama Falls. Lightning is not something someone sees until it has struck, and if you don't spend time in the mountains, you don't necessarily know how serious a danger lightning really is. This waterfall, when standing in front of the bridge at this time of the year, is clearly hazardous. It doesn't take an experienced hikeby tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I would suggest holding on to the south end of the bridge and side stepping. It is much easier to hold on to the railing if you are getting pushed into it rather than pushed away from it.by tyler4588 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I crossed this bridge about a week before this incident. My friends and I were backpacking at Rancheria Falls. We're experienced backpackers, and this wasn't the first time we'd been there. On the way in, the bridge was fine, but on our way out, the westernmost end of the west bridge was under a huge amount of white water, which I'm assuming is what swept the two folks away.
