The hike along Yosemite Creek from 120 down to Yosemite Falls is beautiful. There are a couple of great swimming holes and granite water slides as well. With the late snow melt last year there were still a lot of wildflowers in the meadows out there too.by Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Here are the reservation dates for the year. Make sure you are on right at 7am otherwise the campground/site you want may be gone. http://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/camping.htmby Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I'm headed up to Yosemite at the end of October without camping reservations. The valley campsites are full (I'll keep checking but I'm okay staying out of the valley too). Does anyone know how quickly Wawona or Hogdon Meadows walk-in campgrounds fill up this time of year?by Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
When I looked Monday on sites for last night (Wednesday) there were at least 8 open. I managed to snag one at Hogdon Meadows, but there were also openings at Upper and Lower Pines and Crane Flat.by Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'll 2nd the 1100 feet and 1.1 miles according to my GPS.by Sandpiper11 - General Discussion
Oh don't get me wrong, we had a blast laughing at each other as we climbed and crawled up the trail and then slid down on our butts in some places.by Sandpiper11 - General Discussion
I wouldn't do it if there is any chance of ice. It was slippery without any added issues. I did it without hiking poles in June, mainly because there was a lot of scrambling with hands. Definitely worth the hike though.by Sandpiper11 - General Discussion
I have a great picture of a dad and his son who went under the railing at the top of Yosemite Falls, then proceeded to lay down to look over the edge. I told the guy to come back under, he looked at me like I was the one who was crazy. As soon as I find the picture I'll post it.by Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Just got back from two nights at Yosemite Creek. Only about 1/2 of the campsites are open now, but the ones that are are beautiful (the ones beyond the closed bridge are nice too). Privacy level is much higher than you will see in the valley. Nights were quiet. We were probably one of the only groups up past 10pm or so and everyone was quiet till 7 or 8. Only downside is having to bring in your oby Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I've never had anyone check the number of people in my vehicle as I entered the campground. In fact the last three times I've entered a campground in the valley, I found the check-in kiosk unmanned for more than an hour at a time. We got checked-in the following morning by a ranger when only half our group was still at the campsite.by Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I noticed that yesterday. Thought it was a little weird that a Lower Yosemite Falls hike was listed on Mt. Whitney.by Sandpiper11 - General Discussion
Thanks that definitely alleviates my worry about the snow. Next question (I've tried searching on the forum but didn't find anything). Is there a description of the trail anywhere? In terms of mileage from campground to the falls, elevation change, etc.by Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'm hoping to stay at Yosemite Creek Campground in a couple of weeks and was looking at hiking the Yosemite Creek trail to the top of Yosemite falls. Has anyone done it recently? How much snow is still up there? Does anyone have a good link to a description of the trail?by Sandpiper11 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
