August 30, 2011, I believe I left the Summit around 4:40PM, long before sunset. For the last 75 minutes before reaching the car (and this was still before sunset), the mosquitoes came out in force and ate me up real good. I must have reached the car right as the sun was setting. Since it sounds like you want to see the sunset at the summit, I'd really recommend lots of extra batteries and heby herosemblem - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Mid-July 2011. Started the hike at 10:45AM. I brought 3 liters (100oz) and ran out 3/4 of the way up because I started the hike in the heat. Also, I foolishly did not bring a light-colored hat, which therefore added to my water consumption. Fortunately I had my water filter and was able to fill up at the trailside fountain pictured above. Aw, shucks. They had an amazing selection of delicious exotic dried fruits (they sell for $5/bag). Those items are quite difficult to find, too. On a related note...while going slightly "off trail" on the Sentinel Dome hike, I noticed a fairly prominent, barricaded, radio-tower-like contraption. I only glanced at it briefly, but I thought that might be the location of the sentinel dome webcam (I'm probably wrong). The poby herosemblem - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteDave Wrong. The driver of the vehicle in the turnout lane MUST wait until the road is clear before re-entering the road way. If the driver pulls out into traffic and people have to slam on their brakes, then that person has made an unsafe lane change - and has broken another law. It is quite annoying, being stuck behind a slow driver who doesn't use turnoffs on winding mountain roads. Also being in a gutless economy car which cannot even overtake the slow vehicle...stinks. But here's something that has occurred to me, and it does occasionally have some truth: Slow bus driver pulls into turnout. You & other drivers pass. I'm wondering if people were required by the Park Service to wear suitable hiking shoes before setting foot on the Mist Trail...
