I just heard it was a suicide. Climber on the NW regular route called it in. The cables/trail was closed until around 10 am today.by manimal - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotechicagocwright Emerald Pool? I hope that is a joke. (Even if it were it would not be funny at all) Emerald pool is signed as a prohibited place to swim with many drownings having occurred there. So definitely not a recommendation.by manimal - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
In my experience doing something similar I had to get two permits (did the north rim, went down snow creek and then the south rim, no night in the valley), so unless you had a different experience I would say you need two permits.by manimal - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
No, you actually can't. If you go to the valley your wilderness permit ends and you will need to get another one going up Happy Isles or anywhere else for that matter.by manimal - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was camping in Pate Valley one year and there were what I think were 3 thunderstorms were in the area. Anyway, I was filtering water and I had to go grab something from my campsite, ~200 ft away. In the time it took me to walk back and forth the river had risen about a foot and was brown with debris instead of being clear as normal. My filter that I had placed on the bank was now in the riverby manimal - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Confirmed it. A woman was struck by lightning on the cables at around 12:30 today. She subsequently fell towards the Valley where she was found, or spotted, rather by the park helicopter. Don't know about a body recovery or any closures at this point, but I think the cables are still open.by manimal - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Hearing rumors on facebook that someone, a woman, was killed on Half Dome this morning by lightning. Sources are credible. Very sad, though it was very obvious that there was danger for lightning today in the park.by manimal - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
