Using my DSLR as long as it's not a long trip where weight is critical. If I'm climbing I use my iPhone 6 or small Panasonic point and shoot. For anything more than an overnight trip my DSLR is left at home though.by MattDaddy56 - Photography advice, critiques and tutorials
So I still haven't been able to get up here yet due to other stuff going on. I do have a Mount Shasta climbing trip in a few weeks though. I still want to do this trip though.by MattDaddy56 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
The newer phones take some pretty good photos. With the quality it's sometimes hard for me to justify packing in a big fat camera when the iphone 6 takes such nice pics.by MattDaddy56 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I hadn't seen the article, but just returned from a hike to Clark Point that day and went down to Curry to stop at the mountain shop. Noticed a helicopter hovering over the 4 mile area for a long time and knew that something had gone bad. Love our SAR folks, but always get an eerie feeling when I see the heli get deployed. If you can secure a permit for any of the High Sierra Camps you could easily do day trips from there. All of them are really nice, but I'd go to the parks website and check the closed trailhead report and submit an application now. You can apply up to 168 days ahead of time. On a side note I was doing some research a few years ago for a trip I was doing up Matterhorn Canyon and found some good info on my trip. In a few of the photos I noticed this stuffed chicken and have no idea what it's all about, but realized today that you're probably the same guy. Thanks for the links with the photos, etc. Hopefully I'll run into to you sometime up in the park.by MattDaddy56 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks, I'll take a look. If things get too hairy I will definitely turn around.by MattDaddy56 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I've been up to LYV several times in Winter, but not past the Moraine Dome area. I was thinking of trying to ski or snowshoe back to the Merced Lake area, but I'm not sure if getting past the Bunnell cascade and then further would be a problem (specifically the area between the two foot bridges between Bunnel and Echo Valley). Has anyone been back here in the Winter who can offer some advice?by MattDaddy56 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
