I think those plastic storage boxes are the preferred means. It makes it easier to take in an out, and should provide a small amount of resistance to mice.by y_p_w - General Discussion
I'm sure there are bear boxes at most of the major trailheads on Tioga Road. I started off my trip at Tenaya Lake/Sunrise Lakes Trailhead, where there were at least a couple. In the Valley, there are plenty of boxes at the backpackers parking lot. I don't think there are any others in the Valley; they seem to be located at trailhead parking. I saw one combination lock (big no no) placed on aby y_p_w - General Discussion

I stopped at Bishop last summer coming up from Death Valley. From there we went through to Tioga Pass, which I saw for the first time. I didn't do a whole lot in Bishop other than eat/sleep/etc, but their chamber of commerce has some sightseeing suggestions: http://www.bishopvisitor.com/activities/exp_motor.php3 http://www.bishopvisitor.com/activities/exp_sightseeing_photography.php3by y_p_w - General Discussion
I don't get why you're so surprised. The Yosemite visiting experience is just a microcosm of human behavior in our cities, but packed into a tighter space. As long as you find yourself far away from motor vehicles, it gets considerable better and less boorish.by y_p_w - General Discussion

I haven't had perfect success with it, but I've had OK results with Cutter Advanced with 7% Picaridin. It's rated for 3-4 hours effectiveness. There's also a 15% concentration spray can marketed as lasting all day. I bought that once at Wal-Mart although I never saw it available since I bought it last year. The same ingredient is found in Off FamilyCare Clean Feel at a 5% concentration with aby y_p_w - General Discussion

Here are two photos. The first was when I got off of Half Dome on Thu, June 21. It wasn't crowded on the way up or down, although I got to use both cables most of the way up. I took this photo the next day (about the same time of day) on the way back to my campsite from Clouds Rest. Half Dome is very photogenic from the other side, and you can see little dots along the cables. Even a Fridaby y_p_w - General Discussion
