Quotebill-e-g If you want the big picture perhaps you want to pick up this map: http://www.amazon.com/Yosemite-SE-Wilderness-Trails-Illustrated/dp/1566954134 Looks like it is just missing the very beginning of Mono TH. Just as a follow up, I bought the map you describe above (from Nat Geo's website which turned out to be cheaper than Amazon, but thanks for the tip) and also a Tom Harrison Map (by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Gaylor Lakes is one of my favorite day hikes in the TM area. Here's some pics from July last year Still some snow. Don't ask me who the old geezer is in front of the snow. He's just there to add perspective.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks. I assume you use Nat Geo's TOPO ? I'm looking for a good map of the area and haven't found one yet. I've just started experimenting with TOPO. Normally I use Tom Harrison maps. Why don't you (try to) stay at TM "lodge" instead ? It'd be much more convenient than White Wolf. Tent cabins are similar at both locations, although I think WW may have other cabins with actual walls.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotebill-e-g I like this one a lot.... hope you do... (Didn't see any moonbow ... but didn't stay there all night!) That is one cool pic. It'd be better, though, if you could photoshop out Yosemite Village.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
When we were there last year, I saw a few cars with these long "things" on top, covered in canvas. At first I thought they were canoes or kayaks of some sort (or maybe very large tents), but no, they were hang gliders. I didn't know it was legal until then.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotebill-e-g QuoteThe Other Tom OK, I'm still stumped, but is that Mt. Clark on the horizon ? If you're interested Mt. Clark is in this vid I took from Mercur Saddle. The first thing I zoom in on is Nance Peak. From youtube if you search for yosemite chick-on you'll find a vid from atop Nance. I didn't realize the zoom worked so well otherwise I would done that atop Nance too. O wellby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I have Verizon and cell phone coverage was spotty in the high country when I was there a couple of years ago. Sometimes I'd get service in TM, never at May Lake, didn't take my phone to Vogelsang. That's because a major highway (US 441) runs through it. I don't recall paying a park entrance fee when I drove it a few years ago. So a lot of people drive it and therefore "visit" the park.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
