I'm watching it now (living on the east coast has a few advantages). 60 minutes focuses on his free solo of Sentinel Dome, as well as profiling him. That guy is crazy. Sooner or later he'll have a misstep.....by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Regarding Fletcher peak, it's not worth it IMO. I've been "up the ridge" from Vogelsang pass a few times. Lots of bushwhacking and just not worth it . If you want to climb something, do Vogelsang peak instead.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Thanks for the report. We did a similar trip in reverse to what you did several years ago. I agree about hanging basket...not worth the climb. Also agree about ranger Dave...engaging. Too bad about the food at TM lodge. We always enjoyed eating there. Not so much so Woah Nellie Dellie...would rather eat at Nicely's in Lee Vining.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuoteFrank Furter 5. Baseline water intake for a adult at rest should be at least1500 ml/day. Urine output in the healthy person should be more than 300 ml per day and light yellow. As mentioned very concentrated urine is an indication that the kidneys are trying hard to hold on to water. If water intake is adequate for the conditions, urine production will be more generous and dilute. Here'by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotehotrod4x5 Quoteplawrence Quoteszalkowski QuoteDavid It is my understanding that Sunrise will be open for only a very short time Aug 20 to Sept 5. This is the current plan. Hardly seems worth it... unless they just want to give the pack mules some exercise. Don't understand why DNC doesn't extend the HSC season this year. Will visitation and overnight stays drop off that dramatically aby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I guess both have their pluses and minuses. In my opinion, the overiding factor should be the timing. If you choose sunset, what are you going to do next ? Night hike out ? Camp somewhere ? (can't camp on half dome). Or if you choose sunrise, how will you get there for the sunrise ?by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thanks for the links. I heard the teaser this morning at the top of the hour while driving to work (6AM here on the east coast) but got to work before the piece aired. The last time I was at Mono Lake Tufa SNR the ranger said it might be closed due to budget woes. Sadly, it looks like it made the list. I wondered at the time why such areas couldn't be made self supporting. I had to pay a nominal fee to access the area, but I would have gladly paid more to keep it self supporting. Part of me hopes they will keep it open to the public even if it isn't "mby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
