Quotetomdisco It is my understanding you are not supposed to sleep at the permit office. I believe there's even a sign to that effect. I was there last summer and didn't see a sign to that effect. There was a line forms here sign about 50 feet away from the office, so technically you can't sleep at the office, only near the officeby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. I think there's also public transportation from Fresno if that helps If you do decide to rent a car, then there are other airport options, not the least of which is Reno. It's a beautiful drive down 395 to Yosemite. SFO would be my last choice unless the flights were really cheap.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotemtn man Love the Patty melt at Nicelys in Lee Vining after a long day of fishing or hiking. Better yet take it to go and take the turn off to the famous Mobil just out of Lee Vining and drive PAST the Mobil and go up the hill to where you'll come to a lookout parking area overlooking Mono Lake. Great views at sunset and great place to eat your food from Nicely's. The place (Nicely's) is a thby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

We stayed at TM lodge two days the week of Aug 4 ( some say this is a HSC, others disagree) and we got our official notice today. It says, in part, "Although the CDPH has not identified the specific location inside or outside the park where the individual may have contracted the disease, and a definitive location may never be known, the CDPH has advised that the High Sierra Camps are the moby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. QuoteMom It might help to keep mice out of the cabins if they banned all food from the cabins. People put their food in the bear boxes at night, but during the day, you know people are snacking in the cabins, dropping crumbs which lure in the mice. Great idea ! I saw a guy once eating potato chips in his cabin. Had to be crumbs everywhere.by The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

I have two rules regarding hiking in the Sierra: Rule 1: It’s all good in the Sierra Rule 2: See rule 1 Being from the east coast, it’s difficult for my son and me to get to the Sierra every year. I envy you guys that live “nearby” and can go often. This was one of those years we were able to make a trip, albeit a short one. Great advice, thanks. The one week is airport to airport, ie, fly in on Wed, out the next Wed. For first time visitors I always recommend Mariposa grove, Glacier Point, Tunnel View and if in spring/early summer-the Valley. Not sure about the valley in Oct. So hence my thought of coming in from Fresno. Also, will the tram in Mariposa grove be running in Oct ? My friend's husband just had fooby The Other Tom - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. A friend is planning to fly to Vegas and wants to go to Yosemite and was wondering what route to take and what to see along the way. Their trip will be the first week of Oct. I've looked at the map and some possibilities are Hoover dam, Death Valley, Sequoia ? and of course Yosemite. Tioga road may or may not be open then, but in any event everything in TM will be closed.
