Older thread, I know .. but was just reading and thought I would add this: A couple of times. late in the season when I was in the Glen Aulin vicinity, (heading up Cold canyon and beyond), the friendly kitchen staff there invited me to participate in some of their meals ... practically for free. They had too many provisions ... Problem was (you can probably guess what's coming); I ended up decby Anvanho - General Discussion

No doubt about it, Mixolydian, ... the concept "quiet time" .. is way out of comprehension to a select number of people at park campgrounds ... My somewhat cynical ongoing fantasy is that visitors as they arrive at the entry gates of Yosemite (or any other park) get asked by the rangers: "Hi folks, we need to ask: 1. Can you tell time?" "Great! We also wish to inquirby Anvanho - General Discussion
A youngster, very light tan, sauntered into the Hetch-Hetchy backpackers camground when I was there end of May ... but much more memorable was the quite large black adult up in the high(er) country north (and higher) than Tiltill Valley during my hike about 5 days later ... Vince's linked article is sobering, for sure ... I would agree with the comments .. scouting ... I.C.O. by the Sierra Club is promising. My hunch is it rests largely on the influence by parents; relatives; mentors, etc. Well, it's the only approach I can think of with our 2 grandsons ... immerse them into learning and experiencing the wonders of nature ... hope it sows seeds of fascination witby Anvanho - General Discussion
Gulp ... the whole discussion, which I intiated, has now descended into the old SUV debate. I should have spoken, as was pointed out to me earlier in the posts, more generously of the many, many drivers that DO drive with courtesy ... that there are only those few exceptions that make Tioga Road .. just to name one place, ... somewhat harrowing. But I tell yuh ... slow this .. slow that ... bigby Anvanho - General Discussion

Hi everyone, ... may I please rant? Well, as I prepare to head up to Yosemite for another solo b'packing trip in 2 days, I'm again reminded off the extreme danger one faces up there. SP gets you to the Kannedy Resort jump off point too, I believe. (for trips into the Emigrant Wldnss, among other things). It's also a nifty access into the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness ... from the south, on the PCT ... I'm heading up in about 2 days for a week of backpacking (northeast quadrant of park) ... I've got my 100% deet ready, plus the full 3-piece body netting getup I found on EBay ... Well, my previous inquiries about backpacking down Lyell Canyon notwithstanding, my plans have changed (because certain work dates have changed ... long story ...) but anyhow I'm heading up to TM next weekend to begin a backpack up Cold Canyon instead. WOW !!!!!!!!!!! Very spectacular photos in your link. Yes, Banner and Ritter are over there. I checked out the permit details and it appears I can just meander over and into the AAW if I have my valid YNP backpacking permit. My plans are to head up and over and see Banner and Ritter ... .just "graze" around there for a few days w/camera and camcorder ... chat with some raccoons ... bag a peak ... sit on a log ... as long as there's a little water, I'm good to go!. Concerning the Tuolumne Meadows Campground's 50% availability for walk-ups , are some spots usually still untaken throughout the day?
