Quotetyler4588 Signs on Half Dome about lightning are different, I think, than signs at Wapama Falls. Lightning is not something someone sees until it has struck, and if you don't spend time in the mountains, you don't necessarily know how serious a danger lightning really is. This waterfall, when standing in front of the bridge at this time of the year, is clearly hazardous. It doesn't take an eby LVRAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Quoterightstar76 Eeek, we clearly disagree on what NPS policy should be. That makes sense since this forum contains a variety of opinions and not everyone is going to agree. My opinion is that this trail while not the Half Dome Trail is heavily used enough that there should be signs warning hikers. If this had happened near Flora Lake, for example, I would not expect NPS to put up signs. After alby LVRAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Quotehotrod4x5 If you are a fan of fancy food, then the Whoa Neli Deli is great. I am not. Give me a burger, with cheese and ketchup. Or a pizza with pepperoni and cheese. Their menu is more gourmet than staple. Too much so for my taste. I would not call the Whoa Neli Deli "fancy". It may be by Lee Vining standards, but not by any real measure. The food is decent, but I have alby LVRAY - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

QuoteBob Weaver There's a small waterfall on Tenaya Creek fed by Lower Cathedral Lake, and it's visible from Tioga Road if you are driving north. I marked its approximate location with a blue D. Quotequmqats The NPS has a page. Tioga and Glacier Point Roads Plowing Update It's a bit early to be asking much about it since the road won't be open for more than a month. Quotemrcondron Experienced where? This smacks of the snow shoeing guy last winter that left the Peter Grubb hut heading for I80. He went north instead of south. He was rescued also. Yosemite is not an area to be off trail in without some pretty good knowledge of where you are and where you are going. The same could be said of just about any wilderness or remote area. I will bet my lunch the bear was no where near 300-400 lbs, especially a female (if it was a female). More likely half that, at best. Most people grossly overestimate the weight of wild animals they see, particularly black bears.by LVRAY - General Discussion
We go in on July 29th starting from the Green Creek trailhead. We have 4 or 5 nights to spend, so we have all the time in the world to explore. Our plan is to go to Return Lake and then either cross over to Spiller Creek Canyon, head down down Spiller Canyon and then up Virginia Canyon and out via Summit Lake. If you are going to Glen Aulin, day hike the extra 3 miles or so to the base of waterwheel falls, going past California & Le Conte falls. Unfortunately, late August is not the best time to see the falls in all their glory, but there might be some decent flow left. That area is really at its best in spring.by LVRAY - General Discussion
Just went back through our pics of the trip and Rodgers was by far the worst. We began to notice it a little in Wilson Creek, a little around Smedburg, heavy at Rodgers and Neal Lakes, mild again down Rodgers Meadow with a minimum in Pate Valley. We did run into a group in Virginia Canyon that said the trees around Summit Lake were bad also. But we didn't see those, and the area we saw lower doby LVRAY - General Discussion
We were just up at Roger's lake last week and noticed the same thing. The dead tress are not limited to that area however. We noticed extensive areas of dead trees throughout much of the northern area, far less the further south you went. Yes, that falls does come out of lower Cathedral Lake. About 23 years ago (1986), I followed the creek from Teneya Lake back up to lower Cathedral Lake, walking up and along the south side of where the water for that falls flowed out from the lake. As I recall, it was in August and there was just a trickle of water coming out of the lake. Although steep, the rock face was not to difficult to sby LVRAY - General Discussion
