We went to Bishop last Thursday... and it didn't disappoint. It actually far exceeded again... Personally I was wondering "could it really be that good?" … answer "uh, yes, why did you doubt?" Anywho. Thanks for the info. There's really too much to do. QuoteThe Other Tom Ha! I see what you did there Guess I should explain... We visited Ten Lakes (ok, 4 of the lakes so we could boat them... and then both Grant Lakes) … doing some cross country we ran across this... The tree was scratched up like nothing else... and this nest was right as you see We didn't disturb it at all... maybe a human did this. but it wasn't us. Quotelschaaf What is the status of the SEKI trailquest among the Chick-on group- 60%- or more? That's a lot of trail! My guess is maybe 50% . Yeah... it's a lot of trail... Part of the issue / variable is that we haven't been together for all the hiking for various reasons. So, for example... we have to go back to Franklin Pass, Farewell Gap, Blossom Lakes, Windy Gap, JO Pass, Siberiby chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

QuoteDavidK42 And don't forget the old roads...they range from almost-still-suitable-for-stagecoaches (and, in some cases, even cars) to "WTF am I doing here?!?!?!" exactly yeah, and old rails... and climbers trails that have become maintained... the map in that link... it's been worked on. quite a bit... almost all have been on the park map at some time... it's all funby chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I've found the Benchmark (ok, I didn't find it... basilbop sez … "hey blind bird.. it's right there!" ) We poked around in that area a bit and I don't recall finding anything much really. There is a marker and blister rust sign at the Yosemite Grant border also in that general area. But that's about it. They must have cleaned up the area... unlike a bunch of the old rails … wby chick-on - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteOhnivy-Drak "d" should be the real dome, about 200 feet higher. "c" doesn't make sense IMO. tell that to USGS ugh... just search for Medlicott Dome ... find it in USGS it's Elevation: 9685/2952 Dozier isn't much of a dome either when you are on top of it. I didn't name them. I have no real issue with Medlicott. It's an amazing wall. I kinda like &qby chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quotebalzaccom So does that mean that "d" on your map has no name at present? Or ? That is my understanding. It's not named on the climbing map that you can get from Yose wilderness office. I haven't seen any name for it.by chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
QuoteFatFlatlander I thought (e) was Chickuolumne Dome... I'd be for that.by chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
QuoteOhnivy-Drak Does (a) = Drug Dome? No, that's not Drug. Drug is due North of Mariuolumne. follow the line up from (b) and it's about in line with the "11". You can see it marked on http://www.closedcontour.com/by chick-on - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
hehehe kewl We took the park map from entrance and edited it. You can find it here: https://yosemitenews.info/forum/read.php?17,86733,86796#msg-86796 If there is a trail sign... then you should do it. But it's up to you what you want to say is complete. Um. Ok. Seriously... I rec. this trail to a co-worker. She never been. She took her kids. She loved it. So I dunno. She pretty smart. I dunno. Anywho. I took this pix yesterday. You're going to get your permit from Inyo. And once you do a couple of permits that way... you'll go … "ok, this is nice". Yosemite JUST started online res. We'll see how that goes. Horseshoe Meadow TH … has a LARGE quota... so... you'll have to step off the trail more than 10 feet to get solitude. I clicked on the link from Geezer... and saw the same thing mentioned in a couple of posts. If you zoom in more... a. la. https://caltopo.com/map.html#ll=37.8561,-119.42502&z=16&b=mbt then you can see Medlicott. Ok. Easiest is probably just, yeah, follow that trail. Parking spot is almost exactly 2 miles from the Tenaya beach. Take the trail to Lower Cathedral and up the slope from there... cross the outlet of that lake... and atop Medlicott. If you go to the top you'll go ... "uh... ok... this is it?" Ok. I looked at SEKI map... strangely... no can requirement around Crabtree (I don't worry about such things since I ALWAYS bring a bear can) (sorry) So, yeah, I dunno. We went in Cottonwood Pass and out New Army Pass last Aug. (2017) (I also went up and down Old Army Pass for fun) imo... huge mistake if you don't do New Army (or old... but New was super nice) Cottonwood Pass was really really nice too... so... yeah... you can hike back to your car at Cottonwood Pass TH OR Cottonwood Lakes TH.
