I know they hold them back for the flooding possibility, I was just wondering how they released them in past years. Am I going to get a heads up or do I need to check recreation.gov 5 times a day.by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
So they didn't release all of the sites for North Pines till July yet. Does anyone have any experience with the delayed release? Do they put out a heads up as to when they are going to release them or do they just throw them up there? I normally just stay in Lower Pines but I got hosed by the reservation system this time...by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I was in Tenaya Canyon in front of the sub-dome when it shed it's load of snow one year. At first we thought an earthquake was happening then all kinds of snow and huge rock shot over the cliff to the left, looking up, of the sub-dome. We were on a granite slab just below the avalanche and were scared to death, totally forgot to pull out the camera. Later I looked across the canyon from the Snby Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Good luck with that, in the mean time a bunch of us are scouting Craigslist and flagging the posts and reporting the ones that list enough information. The amount on there has already went way down, just have to stay on it. I think it added about 5 minutes to my morning routine.by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It is prohibited, it's right on the page when you book. I have been working with the Park Service when I come across ones that are identifiable but the bots taking out all the sites is the biggest issue. Get rid of their ability to make all the reservations over the average guy and you take away their east profit.by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteWicket Although scalping is not cool and sad, it is technically not illegal federally and in the state of California. Yosemite is not California, it is federal property. On the website when you book it has the disclaimer that reselling or transferring of reservations is prohibited, so it can be enforced.by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

They don't list the site number on the posting. If they do they get refunded their money Once action is taken against Craigslist it will stop, unfortunately it will have to be the Park Service who goes after them... The only way we can stop them is to make it impossible for them to sell them. If I find the time maybe I will try and get someone in Craigslist legal department.by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Oh I know, I spend about 100 days on average in the park. We already have plenty of alternatives set up, but they aren't our favorite place. Calaveras Big Trees is the leading contender right now. After a week of little effort on my part, Craigslist CA is mostly Yosemite campsite free! I did help a few worried people out who were seeking to trade sites, gave them info and directed them to the campsite picture website. I plan on making a quick scan of Craigslist part of my morning routine. Who knows, maybe we will have a better chance of getting a site in the future! I have been flagging posts on craigslist.com for all of the CA areas for people selling campsites. They are taken down really quickly and I have made it a part of my morning routine. If we all do this maybe the bastards will get frustrated and give up! The thing they are building is right next to the YOSAR area next to camp 4. From the look of the poles, this will not be a modern structure. The tribal parking sign was on a saw horse and not permanent. I am sure some of you are familiar with the access road for the YOSAR, that was where it was at.by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
On my way out of Yosemite yesterday I came across a sign that said tribal parking. It was just past the YOSAR camp and they were building some kind of structure out of what looked like lots of pine logs. I searched the internet and I didn't find out what it is. Anyone have any insight?by Wickett - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuotePineCone Wickett I agree with your disgust over the situation, but you have to realize some families often have multiple family members or friends all trying to help them secure just one site, so prohibiting a name transfer to anyone other than the original reservee would be a bit too draconian. The park should require picture ID corresponding to the person who booked the site when they check in. The rope is set and checked by locals each season. It gets changed out too. I have not been to the top but it looks like an equalized setup with slings onto two bolts via locking biners. There is not a lot of movement at the top since the rope is so long. One individual at the climbing store said it gets checked weekly by a climber he knows.
