Thanks, Bill. The GPS I've been using has never been very good at holding on to a signal and I've never gotten it to stay locked on long enough to give me a whole track. I just picked up a brand new Garmin, however, so hopefully I'll come home with some good tracks after my next visit (as I mentioned elsewhere, I live in NJ right now so don't get out to Yosemite anywhere NEAR as often as I likeby DavidK42 - General Discussion
Thanks for all the discussion on this, everybody. The old stage roads are a special interest of mine. Unfortunately, since I'm still stuck on the East Coast, I can only get out to Yosemite for a week or two each year. I'm doing the three old Valley roads (BOF, Coulterville and Wawona) in stages...try to grab a new section each time I'm there. One section of the old BOFR I've yet to reach is tby DavidK42 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The V9 marker is actually exactly where the old BOFR hit the Valley. As you pull in to the little turn-out immediately past the V9 marker, you'll see a VERY beat-up road at the west end of the turn-out. Some trail books tell you to drive up this and park closer to the small logging area but I wouldn't take a chance (I've never had a problem leaving my car in the turn-out but have seen vehiclesby DavidK42 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hey bill-e-g, The Princeton map tool looks cool but the link you give only took me to a single map and I can't find how to search for other maps on this site. I've got a particular interest in the old roads and this one, published in 1948, still shows most of the old BOF and Coulterville Roads but it's already omitted most of the remnants of the Old Wawona Road.
