A very sad situation indeed. I too have seen dangerous situations on every visit to this spot. My heart goes out to their families and to all those traumatized by having to witness the event! I am a big time Yosemite Nut. My father tooke me and my brothers to the top of Half Dome in 1979 (when I was 10). We camped on the saddle, back when they let you do that. Now as an adult with Kids of my own, I am doing everything in my power to recreate those memories for my kids. OK, I am a little selfish. It's for me too. Thank you soooo much Katy. I've poured over all the other posts but I was really looking for the current info you've provided. I realize how fast things are changing. From all the info I've gathered, it sounds like we will find some challenging conditions in some places, but nothing we can't handle. I like a little adventure in my adventures! Hi Lisa, I just called the # listed on my backcountry permit: "Questions/Cancellations: Call (209) 372-0740, 9:00 a.m. - 4 p.m." I'm not sure if it was a ranger, but they had some pretty current/detailed information on trail conditions for me Good Luck!by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Hi Everyone, I'm heading from Tuolumne Meadows to Glen Aulin to May Lakes beginning on Friday 7/22 with some scouts. Can anyone give me an update on the trail conditions? What are the stream crossings like? What are the BP'er campgrounds like? Thanks in advance!by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Keep the permits! It was conceived with the right intentions. To minimize impact, increase safety, and to enhance the outdoor experience. The process is what needs to be changed! That the park service has allowed a secondary market for these permits is shameful. I'm lucky that I have been there numerous times. I've scratched that itch...by Jayabrams - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
