OOPS! Of course it is.by Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I was able to get away to Yosemite for a few nights over March 1-5. After much deliberation, we decided to take the Mist Trial up to Little Yosemite Valley, gauge the weather and decide where to head thereafter. Over the first couple of hours, from the comfort station through to the top of Nevada Falls, we received some snow fall. The trail was mostly free of other hikers (we saw 4), and cby Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

It seems to me that old western films often portrayed men being buried near trees and their rifles left leaned against the same.by Torero14 - General Discussion
Those prices are for vogelsang and Merced lake. The food prices at Tuolumne grill are standard fast food/ diner-ish.by Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I believe his Lyell Canyon route would take the trail towards Ireland/Evelyn/Fletcher into Vogelsang ~10,000ft.by Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I've done a very similar version of your Rafferty Creek trip. It was my first backpacking trip and I was a bit younger than your nephew--but I loved it. One variation to the trip was stopping for lunch at Bernice Lake--which was definitely a highlight for me. Regardless, I think that it is a very doable itinerary for the abilities of the hikers you mentioned. Also--your Lyell Canyon route wouby Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Yea--I'm interested to know what happened. My friend owns/flys a small four-seat plane that is equipped with a large parachute. I'm wondering if this plane was similarly equipped.by Torero14 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

During the summer months there is a hiker's shuttle that runs from Yosemite Valley to Tuolumne Meadows. I think that you can get more information by calling the YTS Dispatch Office at 209 372-1171. Edit--Didn't see that you posted YARTS stops Sept. 28. There are permit issuing stations in places outside of Yosemite valley including Tuolumne Meadows. I've always been told that the Ranger Station within the area of the TH gets priority distribution. In that if someone in the Valley is interested in, say the Mono Pass TH, they will first check with people at the Tuolumne issuing station.by Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Ah, I see. Well if you're going to do it, this is the right place to be. When I did it, I approached it from Little Yosemite Valley (actually hopped over to the lake just east of Liberty where the trail splits) and followed use trail on south side of Lost Lake. The trail there is well worn and easy to follow. At the end of the lake the trail seems to become multiple routes some marked by ducks,by Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Some may disagree--and my intent is not to be rude--but if finding the right trail at Happy Isles was an issue, I would probably recommend not visiting Diving Board unless you have previous off-trail navigating experiences. There are well worn use-trails, but not all of them lead a safe route. I would opt for Cloud's Rest and other maintained trails in the area.by Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Awesome! Thanks for the detail on the routes you took. Definitely looks like a trip I'd like to do! Were the biologists working the yellow-legged mountain frog effort?by Torero14 - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I always thought Elmer was the name of the person who pushed embers over glacier point creating the firefall. A ranger on the ground would call up "Elmer, let the fire fall!" Or so I have been told.by Torero14 - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
