Haven't been up there, but looking at it from the valley it is almost non-existent. Even if it were, the creek is flowing high and is pounding the snow cone area. Seems with the flood and many of the warmer storms the park has been having, the snow cone has been non-existent all winter. The continued closure of the lower falls area because of the frazil ice maybe connected. The snow cone wouldby buster - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quotehotrod4x5 So they moved it? I thought the rumor mill said it was going away for good. Would be interested in seeing some pictures of the new installation. It think the operative word in the press release is 'seasonal'. The permanent ice rink is gone, converted to parking. However, this is a temporary, or seasonal, ice rink that is put and taken down. Quotechick-on Case in point... Beehive one ... removed... Laurel Lake ... still there... Why remove Beehive? It's on the sign post that tell distance to Hetchy... Quotechick-on Quotebuster Quotechick-on why? these are amazing! why remove them!?????!?!?!?!?! Are you referring to the location/destination signs? I believe that they are removing them as they are superfluous signs in Wilderness. Trying to keep the installations to a minimum. Hi Buster. Yeah, the "desination" signs... Personally I like them... Great trip and report. I think that lake by Bear Valley is my favorite unnamed lake in the park. The lakes by Seavey Pass and the lake just off trail between Kerrick and Stubblefield Canyons are really nice too.by buster - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Quotehikerchick395 The valley roads used to switch between two way traffic and one way traffic, from winter to summer seasons. You had to watch the signs carefully in the shoulder seasons and we just usually kept in the habit of heading east on the southside drive and heading west on the northside drive. ( And staying in the right hand lane.) When was that happening?by buster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
The only thing I would add is that the hike is at a relatively low elevation which means it can be rather hot. Not sure when you are planning on doing this hike, but I'd expect relatively soon. The climb up from Cascade Creek to El Capitan doesn't have a lot of shade and can be hot. I would plan your timing accordingly, as well your hydration strategy and to bring your light-weight backpacking geby buster - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Quoteplawrence Come-on, how often does the stereo in vehicle short-circuit causing a fire? That would be a recall-worthy defect. My source is sticking to the original cause. I don't know, but then I'm not a professional fire investigator. I highly doubt that the investigators just took the visitors word and didn't do an inspection on the car, especially with the destruction of another car anby buster - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. Quotehotrod4x5 Please forgive me if this has already been discussed. But I was wondering if Aramark was required to retain all the DNC park employees as part of their contract? There will be two webinars so that should be open to anyone. Granted probably not as helpful as being present but also more accessible as if they even did have a workshop in southern California I would guess most people couldn't attend it as physically getting to the location would be prohibitively time consuming. Quoteplawrence A friend of mine mentioned that a car caught on fire today at the Yosemite Lodge today when its owners decided it was a smart idea to cook their meal in the trunk of their car. The car and the one parked next to it got torched. Fortunately, no other damage has been reported. At least with the rock piles at Mirror Lake, some people are mistakenly thinking that they are historically significant or of native american heritage. Quoteags Seems like the Creek(s) were flowing well also. Although just a historically average snowpack, I wonder if the high temps have resulted in a higher-than-normal flow (which will quickly slow to a lower-than-normal flow in some weeks). The flow is a little more than 'average' but not dramatically so. Peak was around May 14, at least for the Merced River. Quotechick-on If I rode a bike... I'd bike Old Coulterville to Buena Vista... and Eagle Peak... And also bike to Trumbull Peak and the Tower... Those are some fun rides. Quoterandomsteve95370 57% and 63% is definitely low. But not catastrophically low like last year. As always, there is more to the story than just the final results. Looks like you are hiking the JMT along with everyone else. I would say neither because I try to avoid the JMT if possible and it would seem silly to pass up one of your choices to drive 5 hours to the other. The new proposed names are so awful, you would have think that whoever came up with them and thought they were good or even ok would be crazy.
