There's an Erratic over there...by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Wait, does the chopper give two-way rides? I thought they strictly picked you up and brought you straight to Jolly Kone. Why is that dude wearing a trash bag?by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Season's over, time to go home.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Did you get a view of the fire damage in Little Yosemite Valley and above? Still wondering how the stuff down by the river (Lost Canyon) fared and if those areas got torched.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Cool photosynth. I can see exactly where I walked down. Which from that angle is pretty obviously the only way that does not involve swimming thru manzanita. It's kind of amazing that there is a way down at all.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Awesome. It's great you guys got a ride up there. It saved you from having to listen to the bus driver's stories for 2 hours... Any snow up there from last weekend's storm? Fall colors yet?by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I'm glad I got to walk that section of Illilouette, it was awesome. I clearly need to go to Horse Ridge now.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yep... Group of three dudes, six horses. They were surprised to see anyone else in the canyon (as were we...)by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks to Bearproof and the pink one for the trip idea...by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
QuoteOf course, we spent very little time on the actual Pohono trail; instead, we daled around checking out various viewpoints--a few on-trail, but many off. Lol @ daled as a verb. I like that. I've been Daled before.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Full body wriggling is often the best way to downclimb some of those boulders...by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Followed by a large sausage & mushroom @ the pizza deck accompanied with this...by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Lyell is much harder. Legit class 3 to get to the summit. Conness I would give a low class 2 rating. I've only looked up at Maclure from the saddle, but, looks about the same difficulty as Lyell. Two pics from Lyell...by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
That video makes it look a lot scarier than it actually is.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Yeah, I never walked on any scree. Went up a switchback of grass ramps up the middle/right, then up some class 3-ish ledges from there. It wasn't awful but there was one hard move to overcome a 6 foot gap between ledges.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
"Looks Easy From Here"by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Awesome. Brings back good memories. I went the wrong way on Potluck and ended up doing some class 3 BS. The outlet of Lower Palisade Lake is one of my favorite spots on the JMT.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
It's good for about 24 hours. After that it gets soggy though you could probably toast it in the foil on a stove. I ordered that slice at lunch earlier that same day.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Shouldn't he be in the cockpit??by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

But I saw some cool stuff trying to keep up with him: Camped up thereby AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Dunno how he got up this without flying: Since it was such a rare sighting, I tried to follow / track the bird over the course of 3.5 days: Pretty sure he was either totally lost, or had lost his mind...by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for sharing, that was interesting. My reaction was that it sounds like not much has fundamentally changed about the wilderness experience in 60 years.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
You'll love it. My favorite part was the view from Ten Lakes Pass. The lakes themselves are great too. You picked the perfect time of year to go.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Leor is a beast. He's going for the supported JMT speed record this weekend.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
You can turn off the two map view. Just click on the button in the top right. It's useful for evaluating how much brush there is etc but I usually leave it off. Can also upload gpx files, but Hillmap barfs if they are too big.by AndrewF - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
