Great trip report! Those shelters do look cozy and the breakfast looks yummy! Especially those cinnamon rolls! You guys sleep warm out there? First night was chilly for us and felt pretty low but the second night out was much nicer albeit the random gusts. Here's a picture to add! (fell face first into the snow trying to get up to take this photo haha) Hope to see you all on the trailby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Wow I gotta head back soon! Looking forward to your trip report and all the eye candy! Considering doing Redwood Canyon for an overnighter. Would love to do other trails but I really only have time for one nightby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Whoa is that Lake Kaweah?? That is a lot of water! Have you guys just been day hiking SEKI? Or camping out there?by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Well we are in luck, Yosemite Ski area will open this saturday http://www.sierrastar.com/sports/article126219374.html So hope to see you guys up there! -Kevinby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

If i can recall, there was a sign for the ridge route on the side of the road (GP) when I last went out there.by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
AGS, Bearproof! http://www.travelyosemite.com/winter/yosemite-ski-snowboard-area-webcam/ I SEE MACHINERY! We may be in luck this weekend EDIT: DAmn it it drove byby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
^really solid info/tips! I still remember my first time out to Dewey....My legs were wrecked ahah. I thought itd be easy considering I used to do a lot of FKT stuff but damn...there sure is a technique for snow shoes ahha Regarding your SO, in my honest opinion, the best way to get them to come back out is to keep them warm! If they get anywhere near cold, it's game over!!!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Can't recall if Muir Grove is marked but Lakes Trail and the baldy saddle is the one I was talking about. I want to say the reflectors were triangles with maybe 2-2.5inch sides. The ones I've seen on the Yose Ridge trail are much bigger!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Oh man if you think the Yose trails are poorly marked, wait till you see how the winter trails (Giant forest excluded) at SEKI are marked. Literally the smallest possible reflector they could use!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hey hey! We plan on getting out to BP around 10-11am on Sat. Leaving from Coarsegold. If you see a group of 4 handsome folks with 2 shovels and a military print goretex, be sure to stop by and say hi . Our "plan" is BP --> Camp somewhere between dewey and bp if its mush snow OR head to dewey if snow is good --> Stanford area --> Tunnel View. Hope to see you out there!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Since it will be your first visit, I highly recommend you just spend those days doing some dayhikes so you can see everything! Start with the Valley Day 1, Day 2 check out Cathedral Lake up at Tuolumne, and then you can check out the "new" Merced Grove the next day! But if you want to do a backpacking trip, there are a few nice loops. I personally love the Nelson Lake (Little ...verby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Then for both of us, let us hope the road opens by Friday! The ranger was saying they plan to plow it but theres a downed tree at the moment. Regarding shoes, I personally prefer just using my goretex hiking boots (Salomon 4D GTXs). Only time my feet have gotten cold is at camp when I'm just sitting there melting snow . Other than that my feet have been pretty toasty By the way, which snowby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
If you are up there this weekend, and badger pass road opens, you might see us! We are doing BP to Dewey to Tunnel. Also not sure about Chilnualna Falls, might be more wet than snowy there.by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Oops forgot to say overnight. Still ok to leave it there? Thanks!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Good afternoon all! Quick question regarding parking for wilderness permit holders. When the weather gets better (hopefully next weekend), I was hoping to do a Badger --> Dewey/Stanford/Old Inspiration/ --> Wawona Tunnel trip. We plan to bring two cars so one is staying at Badger but regarding the other...Am I allowed to leave it overnight at the Tunnel View parking lot? Normally if thisby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Damn was hoping to get out to Dewey this weekend. Might hold off till next weekend as this weekend forecast looks iffy.by KevinD - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Not sure what the snow is like right now but according to the yose condition site, GP road up to badger is still open so I would assume you could park at badger? Best to call though!by KevinD - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
I'll be doing redwood canyon (hopefully in snow) in the coming weeks if you're interested!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
We opted to go with SEKI this weekend again. Going to check out the Lakes Trail area Will report back with eye candy next week!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Shucks, I guess I'll have to reroute fro Wawona Tunnel to get up to the Pohono area Or....go to sequoia lolby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Is "Badger Pass" still expected to open on the 16th?by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra

Hey fellow outdoor junkies! I was hoping to get up to yosemite this weekend and was considering *snowshoeing* out to Dewey and heading east after that. Has anyone been out there recently? The snow doesn't look too great on the Badger webcam at the moment. I know theres forecasted snow for the next 2 days but doesn't look like much. Thanks, Kevinby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I tried to point on the weights to her...but she said not to question her logic....Hey as long as this gets her into more snowshoeing trips right???......I can only hope!by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Well we went to the store for her to check em out... she wants the lightening ascents lol. the plastic deck models (revos) were too "heavy" for her haha Plus she liked the bindings of the ascent series better too so I guess we going for the best right off the bat ...(plus its the only way i can convince her to come on trips with me ahaha) Thanks all for your input! Kevinby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Hello Fellow outdoor junkies! I'm currently in the market for snowshoes for the significant other and she clearly wants the lightest possible. So considering my love for MSR, I'm considering the Revo Ascents and the Lightening Ascents. From the spec its seems that the Revos are only 7-8oz heavier (per shoe i think). Would the extra cost of the lightenings be worth it? My other concern is durabby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
So many trails but no eye candy? Would definitely recommend Muir grove the next time you're out there! Nice secluded non-developed hike. That and potentially a backpacking trip along the HST (spring), Lakes trail and Redwood Canyon! I'll be back in SEKi every other weekend and will probably do a few winter trips.by KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
What! I was just there! What area did you guys check out? We spent Saturday and Sunday around the Muir Grove area -Kevinby KevinD - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
