Great that the 120 is open, thanks! What happens if you're planning to stay at a Lee Vining Canyon campground like Moraine or Tioga Lake, where there are no reservations? Hoping they wouldn't turn you away at the Big Oak Flat entrance station on 120.

The only grizzlies left in California are on the flag.
And at the San Francisco Zoo.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Sounds like you were affected by altitude sickness in the first day and after. I've had very similar symptoms going from home (at sea level) to Glacier Point in one day - was ok at GP at first, then no appetite, just wanted to go to bed. I have felt lots better after making sure to get some food into me, even when I felt like not wanting to eat at all.
Check in with your doc about it. Aft

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion If you can ID latitude & longitude from where the photo was taken, this will probably work:

See dropdown where you can input your own coordinates.
And there's a mobile version that you can take with you that can be used offline:

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Those bolts are set in the granite to provide anchors for ropes used in rock climbing, and also potentially for slacklining. There are some at the Upper Yosemite Fall overlook, just beyond the railing, and all over the Park.

Any of you have any actual speed test numbers for the ATT 4G?
Experienced --- v...e...r...y --- s...l...o...w --- speeds at Ahwahnee last month - these are via WiFi, taken from Library Suite on 6th floor. I think dialup used to be faster.
Didn't try wifi from public areas, and I think I had better speeds with ATT in Yose Village. Other valley area

I had an axe but the snow was wobbly and loose and there was no room to self arrest, a couple thousand feet straight down on either side of this.
I wanted to write Happy Mother's Day! in the book (and perhaps bag the year's first summit?) but it was probably buried so this is my Happy Mother's Day! shot.
Rule #1: get home safely! Sounds like fine judgement on your part.

Awesome shot of the Clark Range.
I've gone out the backroads a few times in search of the elusive Turlock shot.
Took my wife that-a-way once. She more or less said "next time you want
to take all day to get back home... make sure I'm not with you"
Thanks, Sir Chick. Did a decent amount of editing in Aperture with Nik Color EFX plug in. The original looks like thi

What would you suggest for someone coming from the south?
Hard to say, really - depends on where you're starting. I lived in the Central Valley for a while, and grew to love the open two-lane roads and funky little towns. River crossings limit choices for sure. Any of those main roads that criss-cross the valley can be interesting, if you're in that frame of mind. Helps to have a

there are some interesting driving routes into & out of Yosemite, other than things like the Highway 580-205-120 path I've followed so many times from the Bay Area.
Here's my favorite Westbound option. Right off 108/120 it goes through picturesque Knight's Ferry (there's a great swimming hole a

If you are coming from the East Bay, take 580 south from the Altimont Pass. Then take the Modesto exit and stay on C132 through Modesto, through Waterford, through La Grange, until you reach Merced Falls Road. Turn right. Stay on that for a ways until you get to Hornitos Road. Then turn left on that and then an immediate right across the bridge over the river. Stay on that road - Hornit

Anyone here try to get videos or photos of lightning? Both are extremely hard to get, especially in a photo. I didn't try that last weekend, but I did manage to get a couple quick videos in the mountains south of Dayton, NV last weekend. Luckily the cell was far enough away to be safe (????) to do this.
You can use a lightning trigger to capture photos of lightning:
