Inyo and Stanislaus does not charge fees for walkup. Sierra doesn’t either…
Hmm… do any National forests charge if you do walkup?
I don’t think so.
So, yeah, I’m glad I can do walkup and don’t have to decide 4 days in advance.
But charging the same as rec.gov … sigh.. for walkup… boo!
Anyway, since SEKI started charging long ago… figured it would only be a matter of

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Congratulations!
Sorry haven’t posted until now…
I wasn’t kidding when I told you we literally are out backpacking ALL the time.
The strange sound maybe a lot flying jet? looking at / for fire?
Dang! There are a LOT of fighter jets over Sequoia at times!
But probably not that…
Take care!

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra There comes a time when we all must change to non-competitive soccer.
Sorry to hear about your hammy.
Ok, yeah, I’m getting to a question...
So you are saying the air was safe enough to be outside for a long time along The 108?
(I’m jesting on Th 108, I know your cabin is in Twain Harte) .

This season is crazy.
Was at M lake in Yosemite when the creek fire kicked in and it was raining ash. I really feel for the people and communities who are directly impacted by these fires....
Copy that.
A few have asked how I am faring. I've lost nothing except altered a trip, and cancelled the ones that were supposed to start today and tomorrow.
We thought we had escaped th

Thanks for posting. I'm pretty frustrated that they say that they re-evaluate daily, but don't tell us what they decide.
I think they have to only close for 7 days. That is why it was closed until the 15th and now... 22 or 21.
Anyway, Sequoia National Park is now fully closed.
SQF Complex is going crazy.
Yosemite should just close everything down.
It's not safe. We have

Not everyone is still continuing to shelter in place this summer.
You’re joking? Right?
Since could go back on June 5 ... we have been out for 61 days and
50 nights and it has been anything but quiet.
Seen just as many people backpacking as in any other year.
I’ve heard non quota places have been slammed much harder
such as Emigrant. Have avoided those th

Thanks for the input. Good to know that you guys are still monitoring this forum.

You have to start where your permit says AND you need a permit for where you are going to camp.
If you're carrying overnight gear in Yosemite you are required to have a wilderness permit.
Maybe this policy has changed recently, but 2 years ago we had an overnight permit for Stanisla

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Yosemite Creek, Porcupine Creek, and Snow Creek have water year round.
I think Porc has fish in it but not 100%.
Yosemite Creek has fish in it. Snow Creek has fish in it. Those are good signs
that a creek has water in it year round. Typically that means it is flowing but some people's
idea of what constitoots water is different than others.
I've heard many times "there's no water&qu

Hi chick-on. I’d love to see these pictographs tomorrow. Can you see my registered email to possibly share the location? I could share some info in trade. I don’t post locations or deface. Signature on this will be in blood. -Jim
Sorry man, we have been doing 10-days in the mountains then come back to civ to resupply and head back out.
Just got back last night. Probably too

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Interesting note on Hoover.
It's a bit nebulous. You have to start where your permit says AND you need a permit for where you are going to camp.
If you're carrying overnight gear in Yosemite you are required to have a wilderness permit.
Ok, maybe not nebulous. It's pretty clear. But I'm easily confoozed.
Anyway, absolutely agree on Young. And they are pretty clear that everyone in the

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra This is to accommodate Sierra High Route starting effectively from Tuolumne.
You have to be OUTSIDE the park and OUTSIDE Hall Research Area if you
are South of White Mountain.
You CAN NOT camp at Gaylor, Granite, or Skelton Lakes. Period.
As stated pretty much the area south of the ridge from Ragged Peak to White Mountain
is off limits to overnight camping.
They must have been getting to

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Seriously, paint it or put stickers on it
whatever makes you smile
The bears will find it regardless and not
get your food if it’s locked.
it’s probably black because the composite
is black and coloring it would be cost prohibitive
bear vaults are clear ish
anyway
have fun and no worry bout the bears

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Even though the ranger(s) on all the wilderness talks said to not use the backpackers campgrounds unless absolutely necessary...
Figured since it was opening the EXACT day before one of our trips... what the heck? It won't be busy...
Loads of signs and crystal clear to us what to do.
