Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Ok, let's say I would like to hike Clouds Rest tomorrow 6/23. Can we just show up w/o a reservation? My hiking partner has a lifetime senior pass. Can this be used in lieu of a reservation at the gate?
Thanks.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Unfortunate accident. So sad and heartbreaking. Brings me back to 2007 when I (and so many others) witnessed a young man slip and fall to his death in a similar fashion. That was a very hot summer day with probably 2x, 3x as many people (pre-permit). I don't think about it everyday, but fairly regularly. Will never forget the look on his face and the people screaming.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion One day there might be Interstate 11 that runs diagonally from Reno to Vegas. So would be 395 N to 80? Not useful I know, and very loosely tied to this topic. Actually it all remains speculation lol. Somewhat fun to talk about nonetheless.😀

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Any area frequented by the masses has risk of ducks. Lembert Dome is another popular destination that has its share. El Cap summit usually has a few also. Glen Aulin can be bad. But nothing compared to that spot near Mirror Lake, though.

FYI Tioga pass road will open unrestricted from Monday.
Tioga Road (continuation of Highway 120 through the park) will open to unrestricted vehicular traffic on Monday, July 1, at 8:00 am!
That's great news; but unfortunately not open for this weekend. Doh!

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion ~ 10 times. But only twice down the staircase. One of those times was during extremely wet conditions. Not only was I cautious to not damage my camera, but also each step down was rather deliberate. I knew one slip in the wrong direction, and it's all over. A few people passed, but most were courteous and didn't mind the extra time spent going down. Traffic was pretty heavy, almost not enou

Falls Creek Flowrate Plot
The link above is a plot of the last three years flowrate at Falls Creek. You can modify the number of days you want plotted at the bottom.
I'm not sure what at what level the Wapama Falls bridge becomes dangerous to cross. The only data point I have is when we visited in early July of 2017. The flowrate looks like it was about 750 cfs and yo

General Discussion Historically, things are in your favor. GP Road is normally open by the second half of May. This year might be different.

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra QuoteCoolburn
P.S. If White Wolf opens by July 6th, I'll try to come introduce myself!
Have stayed there a couple times. Do they still offer the lox for breakfast? Really delicious.

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Detailed accounting from witnesses, tourists. Some of it is graphic, so "warning" just in case.

Who has done some of these hikes, besides the obvious last one? Is that person on overhanging rock?
Agree or disagree with rankings? Which hikes would you add/remove?

General Discussion Sad to hear about. I know some people who have ignored the warnings for Ice Cut, the 4-mile trail gate, etc. Maybe a few folks here on the forums have done it as well. It's a bit of Russian Roulette in certain areas and conditions. All you can do is hope for best, and most of the time think it won't happen to you.
This brings me back to the question in a recent thread about YOSAR and wha
