That's really too bad. Never anticipated that this would become so problematic. It just shows what can happen to free enterprise when things fall into the wrong hands. As we've seen from the crooks in the financial sector.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion The best value hikes are arguably Sentinel/Taft. In no more than 30 minutes, you get tremendous views. Sentinel, especially. Near-unobstructed panorama view of the Clark Range peaks; Starr King; Half Dome; Tenaya Canyon; Nevada Falls; less famous sights such as Lehamite Falls, El Cap, etc etc etc.
In some sense, it does feel like cheating. It's requires too little effort for such a viewpoi

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion What a pity. Reminds me of the time I dropped an SD card near Hoffmann. It was a total fluke that I saw it on the way down. Ever since, I've saved a tiny notepad file on each card, with name & email. Increases the odds somewhat. Although if a card falls into the wrong hands, it won't matter. Card will be formatted and that's that.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I took a quick day trip this past Monday. Didn't notice too many people on top of Half Dome. And surprisingly, nobody was climbing any of the routes on El Cap. Used binoculars from multiple vantage points.
Was there some type of silent protest going on? I also noticed one YOSAR helicopter in the afternoon, flying over the El Cap side of the valley. Hopefully there were no serious incident

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Found the commercial looking through an unlabeled VHS tape, which had "Jane Eyre" recorded on it. Starring Timothy Dalton.

General Discussion While I've always been curious about this trail and want to "hike it" once, it's events such as these that have prevented me from doing so. It's probably wiser to avoid it, and there's nothing to prove to anyone.
Gotta maintain good judgment & prudence. Just a few months back, I didn't even feel comfortable/confident enough to scramble up to Mastodon Peak @ Joshua Tree. Got pr

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Whistle is one of the most essential, yet oft overlooked, item to bring with you. Simple enough to wear around your neck, and could be the difference. One of the final scenes of that Titanic film comes to mind instantly.

General Discussion According to another article, the bridge was partially submerged. One man slipped/fell into the river, and his companion tried to rescue him.

General Discussion North Dome is one of my favorite hikes also. I'm not sure it beats Clouds Rest, but it's shorter and less strenuous. The views from the summit are awesome.
Good vantage point from which to examine Staircase Falls and the Ledge Trail, too...

I thought I posted a link to the other photos on that trip.
I don't see them above so here's the link:

Excellent photos, thanks for sharing. So much for the trail being unmarked, eh? Guess that's now debunked. I didn't go up the ledge; decided on something a bit easier. Hiked around the Hetch Hetchy area instead.

Nice video. I've always wanted to go up this trail. You might have just inspired me to do so, and take along my own little good luck charm.
A fuzzy good luck charm will almost always guarantee a good day in the hills!
I'm actually not familiar with this fuzzy guy. Tasmanian Devil maybe? Just a guess...
For me, pandas are good luck.
