Thanks for the trip report and pictures!by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Honestly it doesn't get much easier throughout the season. Tuolumne meadows is one of the most popular Yosemite trail heads.by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Shhh. Don't tell people about Sonora pass, leavitt meadows or Virginia! That's a secret. In all seriousness though, those are great ways to end up in the park when you started from another jurisdiction and they are all very beautiful hikes.by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I love that attitude. There have been plenty of times I wasn't sure exactly where I was in Yosemite, but hey I knew I was in the Park and I knew I could find my way back to the truck!by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
I haven't been out that way yet this yeat, but I would imagine it's pretty early for mosquitoes. I was at Vernon at just about this time last year and there were no mosquitoes at all.by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
It was great running into you and the illustrious chick-on at the permit office. My apologies for being completely out of it and half asleep. Hope you guys have a great trip. That was great weather for October.by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
The last time I was at Hyatt the stone chairs were still there, but it has got to be 5+ years since I have been there.by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
Thanks for sharing the pictures. My hat's off to you on doing the many island to kibbie route, that's impressive. Also, I didn't know there was a boundary marker at inferno. You guys had quite the trip.by oakroscoe - Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra
You can edit the previous comment all you want, but I still wonder, since apparently myself and everyone else except you in this thread doens't get your humor, where is the humor? Please explain the joke to all of us..we are all waiting with baited breath.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
It didn't change much, I went back in for the last 3 days. Although, there was a fresh wash out on the trail past Wapama Falls after the rains on Monday night. It is still passable, but you gotta do the hop/skip thing over downed trees and boulders.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Dave, those gunshot mics that you are referring to are a joke. They haven't curtailed crime. I would lean towards spending the cash on more patrols as opposed to that.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
QuoteLVRAY My comment was (partially) a joke. But the reality is, few people in this world are doing anything to help either the environment they live in or the people around them. Even if you do not count those unfortuante enough to be in situations where they can barely help themselves, the majority of the rest of us are doing very little of a positive nature. You were dead on. No snow until you get up to Tiltill. Highs were in the low 60s and the lows were right above freezing. All in all a weird January.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Thank you sir! I'm working tonight, then I'll head out after work tomorrow morning. I'll post a trip report when I get back. My understanding is that the switchbacks are closed, so a loop is out of the question.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Just wondering if anyone has been out Hetchy towards Tiltill in the last few weeks...I've finally got a couple days in a row off work this week, so I'm jonesing for a trip. Thanks in advance for any conditions report you guys have.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Yeah, I'm definitely not looking forward to another year of creeks and streams being dry in mid-July.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Dude....not cool. I've tried to erase that Super Bowl loss from my memory. The pain and agony. Even a backpacking trip into the hot springs at Big Sur didn't raise my spirits after that one. Hell, I didn't even wear my Ronnie Lott jersey again until I went to last home game at Candlestick against Atlanta.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Not to correct the far more travelled Chick-on than I am, but to the North of Yosemite, in the Emigrant Wilderness the elevation is actually lower, its 9000' instead of Yosemite's 9600'. Also, off the top of my head, Kings Canyon is below 10,000 and Sequoia it varies between 9,000 and 10,000. On a sidenote, last year on the JMT it was a bit of a hassle as it seemed that you were in a differenby oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
Balza, Glad you're okay, and I feel the pain. Very few things make me as angry as people who dump or leave their trash in the Forest. It's completely unacceptable and shows a total disrespect for the land that we all love...although apparently some people don't respect it like the people do on this forum. Well if you have a permit going out of Tuolumne, Ten Lakes, or Yosemite Creek that makes it rather difficult to get there coming from the West side.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion

Same here. If I carry one, its the steripen. 3.6 ounces and it works well. Edit: what I like about it is that it doesn't change the taste of the water. I get guaranteed pure water without altering the taste via chemicals.by oakroscoe - Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion
