I hope you had a good one. BTW, I am female. LOL But then, it is impossible at times to figure out genders by the names we use here.

General Discussion I am finding that it now resembles a city park not a national park with all of it new traffic patterns in the valley, sidewalks along Tenaya Lake and removal of roadside parking. It is also no longer a place that is easy to visit if you are disabled. Walking is extremely painful for me so I can't enjoy areas that I used to be able to visit and due to being at high risk for Covid, I am not allowe

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion My son and girlfriend went skating there the other day. It was not a very pleasant time. The rink is even smaller than it was last year so it gets a bit dangerous when there is a lot of people on the ice. Especially since there are a lot kids, and adults, using those walkers to get around the ice and they fall, and the walkers fall into the path of skaters. While using the walkers, they also ke

General Discussion Maybe the same thing could be done for Yosemite. Aramark has made a mess of things there. Not that I eat at the Ahwahnee often but the newest thing I read about is that the dining room is going to reopen many months later than it was projected, and all the meals will be buffet style. Really, a buffet is not what people want to have when they pay the prices that are charged. What about the issu

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion There are two types of bears in Japan. The Asiatic Black bear (Ursus thibetanus). They usually but not always have a light crescent moon shape marking on their chest. They are known to be aggressive towards humans. Japan also has a brown bear called Ussuri brown bears or Ezo brown bears ((Ursus arctos lasiotus)) which are distant relatives to the grizzly bears in North America. They are s

General Discussion I am questioning a whole lot of things that are being done to the park by the NPS and its current supervisor in addition to what they are allowing Aramark to do. As a disabled person, I am finding with the changes in the traffic patterns in the valley and things that have been done along Tioga Road, that the park is turning into a place that only the physically abled can enjoy the park. In gener

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Oh my. I have trouble remembering bird names as it is without having to relearn new names. I can see if the name is offensive in some way for it to be changed. Plus, if one has to use its "scientific" name that can also be problematic since some scientific names do have a person's name as part of it.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I am really late in posting this but has there been anything said about White Wolf Lodge ever reopening? Twice this summer when we were driving Tioga Road, we decided to look to see if any repairs are being done. The damage to the buildings looks like it is long term damage from lack of maintenance due to it being closed for several years in addition to damage from last winter's storm. The pla

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I don't either. I have mentioned it multiple times during public comments. I have been thinking of contacting NPS Director Sams about the mismanagement of Yosemite. There are so many things that were supposed to be done and weren't and things, like the traffic pattern whose pilot study was done during non-normal visitation years and now is being made permanent should never been done. I can say

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Unfortunately, there have been what I feel is a lot of lies. I am going to mention the campgrounds and how they have not been restored and now are being used as a dump in my comments for the Visitor Access Managment plan. More campgrounds mean less traffic. Plus, they need to realize that visitor satisfaction is not just about access and traffic but the overall experience.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Does anyone know what happened to the plan to restore some campsites in the former Upper River Campground? It is being basically used as a dump and is an eyesore. Plus, the park is asking the public for feedback on the Visitor Access Management Plan and having more campsites would allow more people to stay in the valley which would help with the traffic issue.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion My husband and son went to Mirror Lake a few weeks ago and that area just past the staircase to the old parking lot was full of cairns. This is not a trailhead and we have been told in the past to knock them down. Next time we go, we will.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Just noticed that it says this is the second comment period, I didn't know about the first one. I swear they are trying to hide things from the public just like they did with the new traffic pattern plan

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion My husband just got a notice that there is a new Visitor Access Management Plan and the comment period starts July 6th and there is a meeting on July 19th. Strange thing is that I am the one that always responds to comment periods not him, but I never got a notice.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion This is a link to the pilot study they did for the new traffic pattern. We have been there several times since the pilot was started and now it will be a permanent change. It makes it really hard to drive around the valley, which in my mind is what the parks wants - to force people out of their cars but has the potential to make it hard to get where you want to be if you make a mistake, and you

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I really hate that new traffic pattern for many reasons that I won't post right now. The pilot was done during the times when Covid and the day use reservation system was in place when visitation was down and does not reflect how it will help with traffic during times of high visitation. Therefore, this study is greatly flawed. It should have been done during a normal year. I have written le

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion The rip rap is being installed to control the erosion of river banks, especially in areas near the bridges. They will also provide habitat for fish and other creatures. They won't help during high flood conditions.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Nothing was constructed to prevent flooding. What they have been doing is construction rip-rap along the rivers to prevent erosion of the river banks which is partially due to how the bridges affect the hydrology of the area. They will not stop flooding in times of high water volume.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I would not cancel. We were there the week of May 14th when they were talking about cancelling campground reservations and the water never reached the expected highs. Our friends were camping in Upper Pines and when we went and visited them, only about a fourth of the campsites were being used. We asked the ranger at the kiosk and they said that people were afraid of having their reservations
