I've been informed that the NPS will accept documentation of reservations at Cabins inside the park. Did they specifically say rentals in Yosemite West? As DavidK42 said, YW is not inside the park boundaries and there have been times during this closure that residents there were not allowed to shop at the Valley and Wawona stores when residents of other areas were.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Quotecrocodile235
Thanks for the updates everyone. I agree, safety first, and it does sort of sound like there won't be camping at all this year. But I'm also wondering if they may eventually open up some of the campgrounds at partial capacity on a first-come, first-served basis. That's probably wishful thinking. I noticed that other parks that have opened are not offering camping or backpacking.

General Discussion Next time, I will ask again. Might have to ask someone in administration. It is believed that someone stole the Ahwahnee sign. I am sure if the park had it, they would have put it back when they got the names back. I wonder if the person who stole it understands that it is a federal offence and is afraid to bring it back.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I have been wondering that for years. I did ask once at the entrance station but the ranger didn't know where the sign now is and if it will be put back. There is that entrance sign right at the park boundary which is one of those that are on a pole. Unfortunately, there is no pull off next to it so you can't safely take a picture with it. However, I have seen people hanging off of it while ot

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Closing the park also protects those that live and/or work in the park from someone bringing the virus in from another area. Medical care is limited in the park at it's best and do your really want the rangers to have to respond to hurt or lost hikers, or accidents or anything else that could possible expose them to the virus that was brought in by a visitor. Plus with the free entrance to all

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I just saw this on Aramark's Yosemite Website
UPDATED: March 16, 2020 @ 6:05 PM (PST)
As a result of guidance provided by the National Park Service and public health officials, all lodging, tours and dining facilities in Yosemite National Park are temporarily closing as of tomorrow March 17, 2020. The temporary closure is prompted as a precaution due to coronavirus concerns. The closure is an

Wow. I have some friends that stayed in the Lodge over Super Bowl weekend (they said it was deserted in the park), and one of them has had a stomach issue since returning. They also made comment of how the food service quality and selection has gone way, way down. I am still having issues off and on. We were in the park last week and the only thing I ate that was from the park was

Parklover, your experience mirrors my December visit to a tee.
Now, for some more bad news.....

Guess what - both my son and I got some sort of stomach issue when we were there the first week of January and still am having some problems. Waiting for doctor to decide if we should be tested. Might be too late but then not much you can do if you have

My speculation is that this reflects directly upon Aramark. Have they improved ANYTHING at Yosemite? I can say that for my family it is a resounding NO!!!!!! I have been going to Yosemite for decades and have seen several concessionaire changes and Aramark has been the worst. I can also say they are the worse when you compare them to Xanterra, Forever Resorts and some other c

Thank you!!! And same to you and others here!!
Basilbop and I are now enjoying our return trip to California. Just had the most awesome day in Arches! Snowed all day and *we* had a blast! The snow was wreaking havoc here, but it was nothing if u r used to Sierra snow! Seemed like maybe 3” of wet-for-here snow. Didn’t cause us any issues. But peeps off side of roads, st

My understanding of the Conservancy's purchase of the land adjacent to Yosemite West was that it is to be used to help alleviate the critical shortage of employee housing. NPS can't fill many seasonal positions because housing that seasonal employees used to be able to afford has now been priced out of their reach because of the short term rental market, i.e, AirBNB and VRBO. Seasona

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion There is a lot of stuff going on in Yosemite and who knows if there might be other reasons for Reynolds to be reassigned. For example, Naturebridge's water well failed and they now are working with Mariposa County to tap into Yosemite West's water supply. The discussion with Naturebridge and Mariposa County was initially done with out owners of Yosemite West property knowledge. Then there is t

General Discussion Maybe I am having more issues than others but I can say, I wish that Aramark would lose their contract. Many of their employees have no idea how they do their job. Some former DNC employees that were retained have been forced to take on more responsibilities with the same pay and are really feeling the stress. I have been verbally accosted by an employee at the ice rink after I asked a simple qu

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion QuoteNot quite The Geezer, but getting there
As of right now, the case in the Court of Federal Claims is still pending. The most recent filing in the case was on June 26. Presumably a joint motion to dismiss will be filed this week.
Interestingly, but not surprisingly, the NPS announcement of the settlement doesn't include a dollar amount. Guess we'll need of FOIA request to find out how muc

I hate seeing them. I have not been to Mirror Lake in long time and was wondering if there are tons of stacks still there.
We knocked them ALL down last year...
They're back up...
sigh...
Maybe someday...
Darn I hate those things. Next time I go to Yosemite I will need to go knock some down.

General Discussion Nothing new just different technology. One time in the early 1990's, we were camping in Upper Pines and the campers next to us had a generator running a full sized TV and a VCR so they could watch movies. It was positioned so that we could not enjoy ourselves. They were also loud, the parents drunk and the kids screaming most of the time. It was not one of our better camping experiences.

Yah, we talked amongst ourselves a while back about how this would probably be a year when the camps would not open. Not at all a surprise!!! Kinda not surprised to hear your Aramark story either!
Hope all well with you, Parklover!
