Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Billy,
It hasn't been washed. It's color is pumpkin or better yet orange.
People, Chick-on is color blind. He insists he's yellow.

General Discussion I've used the same process but I would carefully place the wet bag in the washer (top loader) and spin it for a bit to get most of the water out. When I say "carefully" I mean to position the bag around the wall of the tub so that when the spinning begins the bag is in place and there won't be any strain on the seams or baffles. Spinning cuts the total wash and rinse time down to abou

Hey Guys so im getting the backpacking bug bad and have been looking around at where I can poke out to for a few days without running into to much snow and I thought about rancheria falls. Been out to hetch hetchy before but never out past Wapama falls so I've got a couple questions before I go running out there headlong like the crazy hermit I am.
I've heard that Ranche

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra If the choices are orange and yellow then the bag is definitely orange. Where did the "it's yellow" come from?? I have the same bag and it's orange. Chick-ons are color blind you know. I think all the wearing of the yellow cheese-head thing did something to the rods and cones.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion QuoteNot quite The Geezer, but getting there
Thanks to all who responded. Not the kind of trip that typically gets reported on this site.
You are welcome. The family-having-fun-the-whole-time are the best ones, especially if the kids get turned on by the experience.
Thanks for posting your trip report.

I can't figure out how to quote parts of a message easily. Tried it, gave up. :-)
Thanks for the information on who makes the camping decisions.
It is interesting to me that the job of a superintendent does not involve lobbying for more money. I'll have to go educate myself on what a superintendent's job is.

Hey everyone! I remember seeing some information around cross country skiing from the crane flat gas station up to Tenaya lake. I can't seem to find it anymore.
Has any one done this? information on the topic? Looks to be about 31 miles one way.
Suggestions on best place to park for two nights to do this?
Probably ground snow conditions on the road?
Am I making this up and

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra QuoteNot quite The Geezer, but getting there
I'm envious!
Changing topics: in February we're planning to come to California from a galaxy far, far away (ok, only from the other side of the planet, but it's far enough), and have allotted two days midweek for Yosemite. "We" being myself, my wife and three of our kids (two teens and a first-grader). We've been to Yosemite before but nev

Slightly off topic, But does Yose mind if I go XC around the GP area? Was thinking of testing out my new MSR Ascents (Thanks for the advice JKW!) by going out to Dewey than XCing over to Sentinel!

You can cross-country pretty much anywhere you like. Don't shoe on top of ski tracks though.

Thanks for the great info!
This loop you did a few years ago seems fantastic, but it is doable if we do have lots of snow there??
I will have 5 full days to spend there....spending 2 days doing Dewey Point and then 3 days going to Sentinel Dome, through Glacier Point Road, do you think is a good itinerary (given it's my first time in the park)?
And if I do go down to Sentin

Um, what is rip rap?
Rocks placed next together forming an erosion proof surface on a steep trail that when sandy cause one to fear for one's life while decending. Also useful for deforming ankles.

Do they make you show chains for R1 or R2 if you have AWD?
Yes, they may. The rule is that you have to have chains in your possession regardless of you vehicle. R3 requires chains to be installed on every vehicle.
