I use an unzipped mummy that still has a toe box when unzipped as a quilt for all four seasons. The same bag. A z-rest under the tent and a long neo-air inside the tent. I wear silkies when it's not too cold and heavy thermals when it is. The main way to avoid the "clamies" is to be covered top and bottom. If it's really cold then my down pants and jacket are worn to bed also. I f

Perhaps mountain mahogany (Cercocarpus parvifolius), which probably won't be found around 8500' near Yosemite, but in the Golden Trout closer to the eastern side, chaparral plants may range that high. Pinyon Pine would be consistent with a drier setting.

I am a newer hiker who is kind of rebooting his love for outdoor with a few hikes in Yosemite under my belt. Mostly solo like Panorama Trail, Mist Trail, Pohono Trail up to Inspiration Point, Taft Point and Sentinel Dome.. I would like to take a trip in Yosemite's Tuolomne Meadows region to see the beautiful high country that I have seen in pictures and read about here.

Thank you! I almost knew my passive request would be filled by you!
Pick a spot, specify the season, with snow or no snow, wet or dry, before fire or after fire, or any combination of these, and you'll get a picture.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion I think there is some rule in the isles that any hill over something like 950' is a mountain. There was a movie about this titled something like "Up a Hill And Down a Mountain" where the town people lugged a bunch of dirt up to the top of a hill to raise the height by about 30' to keep the "mountain" designation.

All right, I figured it out and applied for a permit reservation for Friday, May 27 for either Laurel Lake or Rancheria Falls.
Somehow I've never gotten around to doing the Laurel Lake-Lake Vernon-Rancheria
Falls Loop.
Advice or opinions?Tiltill Valley will be swampy so have dry socks. There could be snow on the ridge south of Vernon on the way to Tiltill.

Looks free and clear to me.
OK now I understand what "free n clear" means. Right up there with "looks easy from here"
and "doable" and "just up the trail a little" and "let's go this way"

Next I'll be told that you need a difffooozer plate to cook pancakes properly....
grrrr
sheesh... forget something 12 times... and you never hear the end of it.
You need a diffuser to cook pancakes properly. I guess I'll just have to bring mine, Oh, and a backup spatula, Oh, and another Oh; syrup.

Backpacking and Hiking Yosemite and the Sierra Having guided him through his infancy to see all that he has done and will do yet it makes me wonder, "What have I done!?'
Happy Birthday Dale.
(He has pictures from everywhere in the park in each season, wet years and dry years. Ask him for a picture and you will have to specify place, date, time, and conditions. I doubt anybody has done more, been more places, and recorded more than
