This is just the same peripheral canal that we fought against in the 80's. Can someone explain to me how taking water OUT of the delta and sending it to LA will improve the water quality in the delta?

General Discussion Quotey_p_wThe size wouldn't be all wrong if extreme telephoto plus an additional blow-up of the digital image is used.
I know. I've been an amateur photographer for about 40 years now.
QuoteWe're used to seeing depth of field differences of a few miles. The classic Tunnel View shot shows HD as this little blip compared to El Capitan, which is about 4 times closer.
However - if we're talking

General Discussion QuotequmqatsI think what makes it look odd is the depth-of-field compression that the extreme telephoto lens used creates.
What makes it odd is HD sitting there all by itself with none of the surrounding features. The size is all wrong too.

General Discussion QuotequmqatsAnd you believe that you can see HD from Turlock.
Some people believe you can. I'm extremely skeptical. The photo they show doesn't look right.

General Discussion There's another solution I like better; "California State Parks and Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund Act of 2010" Basically what that does is create a trust fund for the parks and takes them off of the state budget. The fund is created by an $18 fee on your car's license fee. For that $18 you get an annual pass that covers entrance fees to all state parks.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion QuoteeeekI'm still busy trying to picture the black trench coat.
Note the line: "The trench coat will only be authorized for superintendents, regional managers, and management within WASO."
So, unless you are one of them, you have to stand in the rain with no black trench coat.

General Discussion I was hoping they'd get rid of the skateboarder shorts for the ranger uniform and replace them with something better fitting. Sportif makes a great pair of shorts. I think the LE on bicycles gets to wear them.

General Discussion QuoteBeeDave,
I guess that since I have never bought a yearly pass, I do not know the procedure, thus, I am not sure what you are referring to when you say "MY picture selected for this year's pass". Are the passes custom designed individually?
b
One picture is selected out of many submissions. The winning picture is used for the annual pass. I took that picture years ago when I was

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Quotey_p_wWhile I do understand that there is excess capacity (Lake Don Pedro has 5+ times the capacity of HH and has never been full) down the river, the city of San Francisco wouldn't have control and would be a secondary customer (without priority) if HH were dismantled. SF currently uses some storage in Lake Don Pedro, but the Modesto and Turlock Irrigation Districts have priority.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion QuoteBeeDon't need no stinkin' Yearly Pass -- I am surrounded by Old Dude Passes! (Lifetime $10 pass)
The point was that that picture is MY picture that was selected to be on this year's pass.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion QuoteBee(Off Topic ALert!)
Dave,
The photo in your avitar looks like a pretty picture -- could you post a larger version of it?
B
You can get a copy of it. Just buy this year's Yosemite Pass.
But I will post a copy of it in a few days. I have out of town company right now.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion This is just great! I have to travel that road two to three times a week in the summer. All those trucks and backed up traffic. Starting in El Portal, going to Tioga, back to the Valley, then back to El Portal is going to take all day. That's going to make for one awful summer.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion From what I hear HH is not needed as water storage. The SF Water District has several reservoirs along the system that could easily handle the needed capacity. One note: the SFWD is the largest land owner in Alameda County.

Sadly, not even one of those works. They'd deny gravity too.

General Discussion Scientific replies to climate change deniers doesn't work. Most don't know the difference between local weather and global climate anyway.

General Discussion One such "tipping point" will be when the Northwest Passage opens and the Gulf Stream goes north instead of turning towards Europe. At the rate the polar ice cap is receding, we could be in trouble soon.

General Discussion I shall remain skeptical. For HD to sit there, without all the surrounding features, makes no sense. I'd guess that it's a local hill that at certain times of day, depending on the weather, looks like HD.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Since the hierarchy of the BSA discriminates against Atheists I cannot support them. They could teach young boys moral responsibilities and outdoor skills without the animosity towards those that don't fit into an ideal that's no longer ideal.

Here's the view from the Turtle Back camera. Not too much snow at 5000 feet but have your snowshoes with you as you might need the cleats.

Wasn't that camera broke for awhile? Tioga is still out. I love the Turtle Back view and trail. It's the one trail/road that hardly anyone uses. A great pla

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Maybe just a walk then. I've never been on Turtle Back in the winter. Should be a great hike this spring though with one side of the road having burnt and the other side not. It would be interesting to compare the two sides.

Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada. News & Discussion Is this years snow pack going to create conditions like it did a few years back when the backcountry camps were not opened that summer due to the late melt? I love it when the high sierra camps are closed and I can get back in there with my llamas.
