Question:

It seems to me that the areas around the bottoms of trees should be more icy, since they are shaded. But those areas thaw out first.

Therefore, I conclude that trees are warm-blooded.

It's from an obscene, pseudo-English dialect called VinceSpeak: What The Fxyz!
(Most commonly uttered by Nevada inmates when they find out that they have been beamed up to the mothership.)

When I flew in Navy P-3's we had numerous acronyms replaced with a 3-digit numeral code for use on the long range teletype radio. WTF was in the 400 series. One day we spotted a Russian electronics intelligence ship in the Japan Sea and reported it's location to our home base. The response we got said, "no, that's not what it is". We replied with the WTF numerals because this "fishing trawler" had rusting deck gear in unservicable condition and about 40 assorted antennas!. There were no further replies. Not sure if our own observation or use of the code turned them off.

Anyway, WTF has been around for a long time; I'm surprised it's not in the acronym dictionary. Got to be an all time favorite.

If you need a definition you can go to:

http://www.urbandictionary.com

It's sorta wikipedia for all kinds of slang.

I'll spare you some of my sophmoric humor but I was amazed to find
definitions for some acroynms I've used at work that I hope that
former bosses don't put 2 and 2 together about...
(though not a finer moment than hearing your boss using the acronym in
a code release in front of a meeting with a group of colleagues)

As the thread was blue from the start, and it is April 1st, I want to share a recently encounter scatological slang term:
crop dusting
(search enclosed in quotes in google, first listing now!)

I understand the in the ag industry "crop dusting" is now called "aerial application" . Not sure the slang term will change also.

I hesitate to elaborate on this ... however to explain: an earlier posting referenced "flying experience and WTF" which got me thinking of a recently learned slang term "crop dusting" . This term refers to a personal act in public that usually produces intense disapproval by others. Does not refer to insecticide deposition on a field by airplane. It is slang for flatuence released in a crowd.

Frank,

Dusting in that sense implies some degree of particulate matter in addition to gas. Sounds ominous for the guilty party.

June, where are you? We need help!

There is a different term for that event, that I did not learn in professional school, but have heard in movies. Don't know how it is spelled.

WTF is that pile of WTF?

That is the pile of gloves that Gary or YPW referred to in another thread; I did not see this when I was there at the cables last time(Jurassic Era) This is no better than a pile of trash -- disgusting!!

And on that completely sour note, I am going to pretend to be human and fake some sleep (b-4 folks figure out that I only sleep 4-5 hrs a night and spend the rest of the time avoiding work at the keyboard)

South Yuba River State Park.

Check out the guys on the rock, about to dive into the river, they are holding beer bottles. And checking out the chicks in bikinis.

Only the beer bottles are illegal.
