Tioga Road Opens on May 11 at Noon.

The Tioga Road (Highway 120 through the park) will open at noon on Friday, May 11.

Kewl! Now it'll take only 4 hrs to the valley instead of 6!

I wonder how the Tuolumne is doing. Perhaps I hike to this spot again and have good batteries in my light meter too!

I'm in Mammoth now. I'll let you know tomorrow how Tuolumne is.

Ebbetts Pass/State Route 4 is also open.

NPS web site says Tioga Rd. is officially open.

And there was much rejoicing...

It was open at least 3 hours before they said it would be. But that's no surprise to me.

Went for a small hike today:

A couple years ago the Half Dome cables went up two days before the announced date. Tricky NPS...

I wasn't even planning to go past the bridge. But since I was early to me the friend that was hiking down from Glacier Point I decided to go up a bit more. When I got to where the mist was starting I mentioned to some people there that I was turning around because my camera and cell phone would get wet (nice excuse at least). They gave me a trash bag and the electronics go to stay dry.

No, I didn't have a rain coat. Fortunately I don't disolve in water so all was fine.
