If you scan the facility descriptions for campsites on Recreation.gov, "comfort station" is often the code they've got for bathrooms with running water. The alternative seems to be "vault toilet" for campgrounds without running water but with outhouses. I guess "pit toilet" or "outhouse" just doesn't cut it any more.
"Comfort station" actually has a Wikipedia article (as well as a slang definition I won't get into here). They define it as an outhouse.
