Pink bird in the mountains. We had, for a few years, among the egrets flocking in southern montana, a flamingo (presumably from a zoo) that was nicknamed "Pink Floyd".

Yesterday. You need to guess the peak (It should be easy) (there is a huge hint in the picture).

Would the color of the rock be a big clue?
avatar Re: New Species of Bird Discovered on Remote Sierra Peak

Yer not gonna give any hints (the problem is that these "ridgelines" like Cock's comb etc., start all looking alike when viewed from different angles. From Clouds rest, I could point out Red Peak and Mt. Clark, no problem. But then echo peaks start looking like cocks comb/ unicorn cluster...Sigh..I dont want you to give it away outright, but I need to know that I am at least looking in the right area Confused

Well then guess it.

The first picture has:
Red Peak Pass
Ottoway Peak
Merced Peak and Glacier (but not THE glacier... my bad)
Triple Divide Peak

You can really see the Clark Range cresty.

The second picture.. that is Gray Peak

Now start working on the zoom shots

Okay -- dont give the answer...I have my mappy out so tht I can pin the direction that you are looking from.. I DID get that Clark was in the pic, but it looks like you are HIGHER than clark which should eliminate quite a few selections..

Clark isn't in the picture. You can't see Clark from there. (Gray is in the way)

Ok. I need to uncorrect this.
The Merced Glacier/Snowfield does have historical significance.
It is the glacier that Muir "discovered" in 1871.
There's a good write-up on it in Shaffer's Yosemite National Park book.

You can also see Yosemite Falls from up there.

AHHHH.. the source of one of my false starts: the view IS from Red Peak, but that was only for that pic? I KNOW what area you were in; I have it narrowed, but my problem is that in order for Clark dangle at that angle, you have to be 10K+. I am using the Yosemite Park mappy that they hand out at the gate, in the morn, I can fish out my N'tl Geographic mappy. I might bee missing a possible peak. It looks like you were in the lower South bowels of the Park.

There is no mountain named Star King in Yosemite:

[Depressing item of note: Thomas Starr King's statue in the National Statuary Hall was recently replaced by that of 'Ronnie the Village Idiot.']

If you want to see any other photos let me know.
I also visited Grayling Lake and Lake 10,425.
As you go up to Red Peak you get great views of Lower Ottoway which
you cannot see from the Pass.

Billy, I am a little confusedConfused: WAS the mystery peak Red Peak? or was that just for the photos on the link? If it was Red Peak all along, that was my FIRST guess early on when I asked if "the color of the rock was significant" (posted before all the wrong guessing)(the red color=Red Peak)

Post the other pics AND your route (by the day, so I can see what you covered in a day)

Both the photos above were from the top of Red Peak. (I think I'm repeating myself)

As requested... here are some more photos:

http://picasaweb.google.com/dale.dekeyser/RedPeak09

The first 2 are the GPS tracks. (use the zoom tool)
Day 1: SJ->Mono Meadow TH->Lower Ottoway->Campy
Day 2: Lower Ottoway->Red Peak Pass->Red Peak->Lake 10,425->Grayling Lake->Red/Gray/Clark Creek->Campy
Day 3: Campy->Mono Meadow TH->SJ

Did you find Cathedral, Matthes Crest, Dolly Domes, Tressider, Echo Peaks etc. on those zoom shots?

Grand PooBah Goatie: yer not hearing me -- I was on track with the correct answer BEFORE you gave it up! Lookie post # 7 YES, I was sure that I was on track with the reddish color AND I did see echo peaks and Tressidor and Cathedral (at that point I was sure that you were in the SSW quadrant)...but but..when you did not confirm my "red clue" I went off track....so I want my PASSING GRADE!!!!!

Clark has a number of class 4 routes. No class 3. All from east.

Red has class 2 route.
Merced has class 2 route.
