I have never been to Yosemite in winter before. I had some time off, so why not. Got there last Tuesday. Ranger at 140 entrance said chains were not needed if you had M
+ S rated tires, just needed to carry them. Around Cascade Falls the roads were icy, and everyone was putting chains on. Most of the valley was icy on Tuesday, and I kept chains on.

Went near Vernal Fall on Wednesday. Ice Trekkers worked great on the icy trail. Lots of people who weren't wearing any traction devices were sliding all over the trail:
