Yes. It's Eleanor. Have seen them a number of times in the lower elevations.
It's the Western Pond Turtle.
The only native freshwater turtle in California.

And now I learned something today. smiling smiley
Thanks

I think that the turtle is about to sneak attack the bird.

Prolly just resting from the previous days 20 ft. rollers.
Lake was nearly unboatable. Nearly capsized the SS Chick-On.
It turned into a 3 hr tour...

tongue sticking out smiley

OMG, what a drama queen! Didn't even see a white cap...

Just when I'm starting to have fun... "We have to get off the water NOW!"

To be fair... The SS Chick-On did take on water, and someone's rear end got soaked! Ha! Ahem. Sorry. It was scary!

And we walked... And then we got back in the water and then who needed to be shoved back to camp...??? Dancing GIrl

Was the water in the SS Chick-On clear and cold....or warm and yellow?

Just kidding. As a long time sailor, the time to get off the water is as soon as you think: "Might be a good idea to get off the water...."

I've boated a number of lakes with that little boat that had much bigger waves, whitecaps and bigger "rollers"... But uh, yah, Chick-on missed a lot of those with me...

Vogelsang, I was ready to get off the lake! I wasn't worried about capsizing.. But I was worried that the pack could get tossed out and I was getting splashed a lot...

Been on sailboats a few times (Monterey Bay and SF Bay), only as passenger... But on the relatively little J21 on SF Bay, the real sailor and Basilbop and I were using our body position in the boat in ways I hadn't experienced before. Two things: I wasn't motion sick and I loved it! But not enough time for all hobbies that I would enjoy... And grew up boating Sierra lakes in an inflatable (multi-person Sevylour)... So maybe my threshold is a little higher than a certain bird...

But yah, I was starting to have fun and did squeal "wheeeee!!!!" And then we had to get off the water. It was a good spot to get out...
