The Long and Short of it?

So... there's a lot of lakes named Long in The Sierra.
Since I'm from SF Bay Area... is it just "Sierra"?
Anywho... um... yeah... walked by 4 of them this August/Sept.
And it was... o, wow, um... yeah, it's not THAT Long
and um... wow... that's the best they could come up with?

re: pic no 2. despite the lack of trees in the basin, could it possibly be transitioning into a meadow, and therefore 'longer' when it was named than it appears now?

Yeah, lots of longs. Don't really know why either.

Here's my guesses (I know you didn't ask for them but...)
Pic 1...Bishop Creek trail headed toward Dusy Basin ?
Pic 2...Mosquito Flats ?
No guesses on the others.

Ok... you found another! (I haven't ever gone toooo far up Little Lakes Valley)
(only just goofing around maybe to Heart)

And while you're at it, there are two Mono Passes. I always thought Mono meant one, but......

There are definitely a few Twin Lakes

Kennedy Meadows too...

'Mono' appears to be a corruption of a native word. But it's also Spanish for 'monkey'.

There are Upper and Lower Long Lakes above Fremont Lake in the Hoover Wilderness...and Long Lake east of Wire Lakes in the Emigrant Wilderness.

But I thought most of your hiking was further south this summer.

Thanks for the Little lakes one. My son and I have been there a few times. Always fun.

Both Tahoe and Eldorado National Forests have a Long Lake. Tahoe's Long is just below Grouse Ridge, and Eldorado's is in the Mokelumne Wilderness. I like 'em both, but neither comes close to the some you've posted. Love the Long Lake in the Emigrant (pic #5)!
