My traditional next day consolation prize (ski Badger) after spending the previous night freezing to death watching a dud Firefall....

Is this pseudo-firefall-due-to-position-of-sunrise season?

I thought this was a February-March event, but I suppose the sun is at the same position twice a year.

Yeah, forget FireFall altogether and just go skiing!!

Frank, to my knowledge, the phenom takes place for about a month in February.

The other time of the year the sun would be in the right place probably doesn't have water for the falls.

I seem to recall that the February event is possible for about a week and occurs roughly around the 20th of that month. The timing of the other event would be symmetrical with respect to the Winter Solstice, which would place it around October 20.

So a clear very early morning in late August after a large storm would be a possibility for the Horsetail Firefall Phenomenon. If you are going to go to Yosemite and not see that firefall, better to go in August. At least it would be warmer.
