INTERIOR BEGINNING THURSDAY NIGHT...

.THE NEXT PACIFIC STORM WILL REACH THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA COAST
THURSDAY AFTERNOON...WITH RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW SPREADING SOUTH
OVER THE REGION THURSDAY NIGHT. THERE WILL BE A LITTLE...IF ANY...
BREAK BETWEEN THIS STORM AND A SECOND STRONGER SYSTEM WHICH WILL
REACH THE REGION SATURDAY.

THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON...

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY EVENING
THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: THE FIRST STORM WILL BRING 3 TO 5 INCHES
OF NEW SNOW TO THE MOUNTAINS ABOVE 6000 FEET.

* ELEVATION: SNOW LEVELS WILL BE BETWEEN 5000 AND 6000 FEET.

* TIMING: THE STORM WILL REACH MERCED AND MARIPOSA COUNTIES
LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON. RAIN AND SNOW WILL SPREAD SOUTH
OVERNIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE: CAMP NELSON...GIANT FOREST...JOHNSONDALE...
LODGEPOLE...SHAVER LAKE...YOSEMITE VALLEY...TEHACHAPI...
LAKE ISABELLA

* WINDS: GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH OVER THE CREST WILL CAUSE DRIFTING
AND BLOWING SNOW WITH VISIBILITIES NEAR ZERO AT TIMES.

* IMPACTS: TRAVEL INTO THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA AND THE
TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS ABOVE 6000 FEET MAY BE DIFFICULT...IF
NOT IMPOSSIBLE...AT TIMES. PEOPLE HEADING INTO THE MOUNTAINS
FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND SHOULD CARRY CHAINS AND BE PREPARED
FOR ROAD CLOSURES.

* A SECOND...STRONGER STORM WILL REACH THE MOUNTAINS SATURDAY.
THE SNOW LEVEL WILL FALL TO 4500 TO 5000 FEET BY SATURDAY
NIGHT. TOTAL NEW SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ABOVE 5000 FEET FOR
FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY WILL RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 FEET AT
YOSEMITE TO 9 TO 12 INCHES IN THE TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS. WHILE
ONLY LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED ON THE GRAPEVINE AND TEHACHAPI
PASS AT THIS TIME... SEVERAL INCHES OF NEW SNOW ARE LIKELY
ON HIGHWAY 178 THROUGH THE WALKER PASS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

...WET WEATHER TO RETURN TO THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA INTERIOR BY
THIS WEEKEND...

A PAIR OF PACIFIC WEATHER SYSTEMS WILL ARRIVE LATE THIS WEEK. THE
FIRST WILL MOVE IN TO CENTRAL CALIFORNIA THURSDAY NIGHT WITH
PERIODS OF RAIN DEVELOPING...CONTINUING INTO FRIDAY. A BRIEF
SLOWDOWN IN THE PRECIPITATION IS POSSIBLE FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE THE
SECOND SYSTEM ARRIVES SATURDAY. THE PRECIPITATION WILL BEGIN TO
TAPER OFF SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY.

WHILE IT IS STILL TOO EARLY TO SAY HOW MUCH PRECIPITATION WILL
FALL...PRELIMINARY INDICATIONS ARE FROM A HALF INCH TO ONE INCH
IN THE SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY AND HIGH DESERTS OF KERN COUNTY...WITH
2 TO 4 INCHES IN THE SOUTHERN SIERRA AND TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS BELOW
5000 FEET. THESE ARE 3 DAY ESTIMATES FROM FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN HANFORD HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW...AND/OR BLOWING SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT
FROM 8 PM THIS EVENING TO 4 PM PST SATURDAY. THE WINTER STORM
WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

*TWO PACIFIC STORM SYSTEMS WILL MOVE INTO AND THROUGH THE CENTRAL
CALIFORNIA INTERIOR TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY BRINGING HEAVY SNOW
AND GUSTY WINDS TO THE MOUNTAINS ABOVE 5000 FEET.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: THE FIRST STORM WILL BRING 18 TO 24 INCHES
OF NEW SNOW AT AND ABOVE 7000 FEET BY FRIDAY EVENING...LESSER
AMOUNTS WILL FALL DOWN TO AROUND 5500 FEET. ADDITIONAL SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 15 INCHES WILL OCCUR ON SATURDAY.

* ELEVATION: SNOW LEVELS WILL BE BETWEEN 5000 AND 6000 FEET.

* TIMING: THE STORM WILL REACH MERCED AND MARIPOSA COUNTIES EARLY
THIS EVENING...SPREADING SOUTHEAST INTO KERN COUNTY DURING THE
NIGHT.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE: HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF YOSEMITE PARK INCLUDING
BADGER PASS...HUNTINGTON LAKE... SHAVER LAKE...GIANT
FOREST...LODGEPOLE...CAMP NELSON...AND POSSIBLY FRAZIER PARK
DURING THE DAY FRIDAY.

* WINDS: GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH OVER HIGHEST ELEVATIONS WILL CAUSE

MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE OVER HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
ALL TRAVELERS HEADING INTO OR OUT OF CENTRAL CALIFORNIA TONIGHT
THROUGH
SATURDAY SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR WINTER DRIVING CONDITIONS... EVEN
THOUGH SNOW LEVELS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN ABOVE PASS LEVELS.
