THURSDAY AFTERNOON...WITH RAIN AND MOUNTAIN SNOW SPREADING SOUTH
OVER THE REGION THURSDAY NIGHT. THERE WILL BE A LITTLE...IF ANY...
BREAK BETWEEN THIS STORM AND A SECOND STRONGER SYSTEM WHICH WILL

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY EVENING
THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: THE FIRST STORM WILL BRING 3 TO 5 INCHES
OF NEW SNOW TO THE MOUNTAINS ABOVE 6000 FEET.
* ELEVATION: SNOW LEVELS WILL BE BETWEEN 5000 AND 6000 FEET.
* TIMING: THE STORM WILL REACH MERCED AND MARIPOSA COUNTIES
LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON. RAIN AND SNOW WILL SPREAD SOUTH
OVERNIGHT AND CONTINUE THROUGH FRIDAY.
* LOCATIONS INCLUDE: CAMP NELSON...GIANT FOREST...JOHNSONDALE...
LODGEPOLE...SHAVER LAKE...YOSEMITE VALLEY...TEHACHAPI...
LAKE ISABELLA
* WINDS: GUSTS UP TO 60 MPH OVER THE CREST WILL CAUSE DRIFTING
AND BLOWING SNOW WITH VISIBILITIES NEAR ZERO AT TIMES.
* IMPACTS: TRAVEL INTO THE SOUTHERN SIERRA NEVADA AND THE
TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS ABOVE 6000 FEET MAY BE DIFFICULT...IF
NOT IMPOSSIBLE...AT TIMES. PEOPLE HEADING INTO THE MOUNTAINS
FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND SHOULD CARRY CHAINS AND BE PREPARED
FOR ROAD CLOSURES.
* A SECOND...STRONGER STORM WILL REACH THE MOUNTAINS SATURDAY.
THE SNOW LEVEL WILL FALL TO 4500 TO 5000 FEET BY SATURDAY
NIGHT. TOTAL NEW SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ABOVE 5000 FEET FOR
FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY WILL RANGE FROM 1 TO 2 FEET AT
YOSEMITE TO 9 TO 12 INCHES IN THE TEHACHAPI MOUNTAINS. WHILE
ONLY LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED ON THE GRAPEVINE AND TEHACHAPI
PASS AT THIS TIME... SEVERAL INCHES OF NEW SNOW ARE LIKELY
ON HIGHWAY 178 THROUGH THE WALKER PASS.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.
