Trails.com worth it?

Has anyone purchased a subscription to trails.com? Is it worth it? I will sign up for the 14 day free trial, I guess that will tell me, but I figured I would ask.

I don't think they're worth it.

I'd take my 50 bucks and buy some nice maps and/or nice topo mapping software.

You can find info like that at sites like everytrail.
Topo! Explorer also has the same concept.
There's probably a number of others out there too.
With anything you're at the mercy of the person doing or saying they did it
and also what people are willing to go thru to put things up.
Maybe no one ever puts up trip reports on this forum b/c they are lost
in the shuffle within a week or so... dunno...
Still waiting for the "permits in November" report....

If you are looking for maps, have a look at acme.mapper.com.

Looking for trail descriptions and whatnot, there are many good guides - I like Sierra North and Sierra South for backpacking plans, with topo maps from Harrison to plan some cross country legs. Moon guide for California Hiking is not listing every single trail but gives a good idea of what's out there, wherever there has to be... And there are a ton of trip reports on the internet, one of the best at fedak.org.

ETA: oh, duh. fedak.net.

Another resource is simply nps.gov.

And I just remembered this one:

http://www.yosemite.national-park.com/

If you go here:
http://www.yellowstone-natl-park.com/

and scroll down ... all the parks are there...

Have fun
