Yosemite Falls or Four Mile trails- current conditions?
April 18, 2011 03:47PM
I will be in Yosemite next week (arrive 4/24). Any current information on conditions along the Yosemite Falls (to Columbia Rock) or Four Mile trails would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tom

Do you know when it will be opened?

I don't expect it to be open until after the Glacier Point Road opens. The Four Mile Trail is usually the last trail to open for the summer.

Four Mile is still closed.

Yosemte Falls is open, probably snow and ice at the top. As long as the trail isn't closed by rockfall or another storm, anyway.

Yosemite Falls trail to Columbia Rock should be fine...was on the Snow Creek trail up to Mt Watkins this past weekend and the trail was dry on the switchbacks (well, snow free...there were plenty of spots where runoff was flowing down the cliffs and on the trail)...and lots of snow up top.

Yep, you are right...too much snow at the top, found the USGS monument on bare rock down closer to the Watkins Pinnacles.

Nice. Dats where I'm going dis weekend. Wanna hang out in the curved tree for a bit.
Sleep on the top. Watch some snow come crashing down. Then go check out Olmsted (weather permitting).
If I got the time I'll poke around more and look for the BM. Been up there a few times and haven't
run into it. It's not on any map or benchmark viewer I have ever seen.
I presume it must be on the Old Yosemite Grant line b/t Clouds and Indian Rock proper or very close.

Nice.

Happy to share and to give back a little...I have been enjoying your pics and living vicariously through them for a long time! Have a great weekend up there. I will be back in the valley a week from today for a few days of day hiking...some of the to-do's that have been on the list for a while...Fern Ledge, Diving Board, etc.
