On Sunday, enjoyed a nice dinner at the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge:

(But in all fairness, there are a number of signs around the lodge where it's named only as the Tuolumne Lodge (no Meadows in the name). But not once did I see a sign on the property referring to it as the Tuolumne Meadows HSC. tongue sticking out smiley )

But anyway, after the dinner had some time to take this 720º photosynth from a nearby dome:

Enjoy!

Love the pic, but why do they call it 720 degrees?

It's shorthand to denote a 360º horizontal panorama + 360º vertical panorama in one photo.

The Tuolumne Meadows Historic District lies on the eastern side of Yosemite National Park northeast of Yosemite Valley in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range. The district is approximately 3.5 miles long by 1 mile wide and includes most of the meadow and those portions of the surrounding lodgepole pine forest where much of the physical development directly associated with the meadow has occurred. The district is owned and managed by the National Park Service, though three areas within it are currently leased by the Delaware North Company, which manages numerous private concessions throughout the park. These leases include the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge and High Sierra Camp, a pack station and corral on the north edge of the meadow, and a store and service station along the Tioga Road. The Tioga Road passes from east to west through the entire length of the meadow along its southern margin. Up until 1973 the Sierra Club owned a 160 acre inholding in the middle of the meadow at Soda Springs, but this property has since passed to National Park Service ownership.

The Tuolumne Meadows High Sierra Camp was separate from the Tuolumne Meadows Lodge:

“The Tuolumne Meadows camp ... was established in the summer of 1916. The
camp was abandoned during World War I. It reopened in 1923 under management of the Yosemite National Park
Company. At that time the hikers’ camp consisted of dormitories and a dining room. The men’s dorm was a one-story
portable section frame building with canvas walls and roof. A similar structure existed for women hikers. The dining
room structure, built in 1923, also used as a kitchen, comprised a one-story portable section frame building with canvas
walls and roof. Lodging and meals could be secured for $0.75 each. The nearby Tuolumne Meadows Lodge was made up
of the earlier camp buildings. It consisted of fifty canvas cabins, a frame lodge with canvas walls built by the Desmond
Company in 1916, frame and canvas bathhouses, and an icehouse and barn, also built in 1916.”

Cabins 1-3 are south of the dining room/kitchen complex... but I believe they are slated for removal due to their proximity to the river.
